Why is Australia a safe bet to win?
Australia is one of the favorites to top Group B following their incredible performance against Team USA in their recent exhibition game. They showcased a solid core and a deep bench team that can deliver offensive and defensive threats when needed. During the FIBA qualifiers, they matched New Zealand with a 2-1 record, with their only loss coming from their first game against the Tall Black.
It was smooth sailing for the Boomers from there on, destroying Hong Kong’s basketball team in a 115-52 scoreline and claiming redemption from their early loss to New Zealand 81-52 to book a ticket to the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
The squad packs a punch and features some of the biggest names in the NBA, including San Antonio Spurs veteran Patty Mills, Utah Jazz sharpshooter Joe Ingles, and Philadelphia 76ers young star Matisse Thybulle. They also get some help from ex-Cleveland Cavaliers guard Matthew Dellavedova and Toronto Raptors forward Aron Baynes. Nonetheless, the combination of players coming from the NBA and the NBL makes the team more lethal coming into the contest.
Why is Nigeria a safe bet to win?
Helmed by head coach Mike Brown, Nigeria is the only African team in the Men’s division of the 2020 Olympics basketball. After a hard-fought qualifying, they now find themselves in one of the biggest tests of international basketball. This should put their fresh lineup to the test after putting pressure on Team USA and eventually taking a win. We expect a more inspired D’Tigers team come game day, which should present several challenges.
Looking at Nigeria’s lineup, there’s an ample amount of firepower that can bring the team to the next phase of the tournament. There are several players from the NBA that made their way to the lineup, including Sacramento Kings forward Chimezie Metu, Minnesota Timberwolves guard Josh Okogie, Milwaukee Bucks forward Jordan Nwora, Utah Jazz forward Miye Oni, and Detroit Pistons center Jahlil Okafor.
Additionally, three players from the Miami Heat joined the team to add more depth, featuring guards Gabe Vincent and KZ Okpala, and forward/center Precious Achiuwa. There’s plenty of role players coming from the EuroLeague as well, making this a versatile team that can deliver on both ends of the court.

Australia vs. Nigeria Expert Betting Predictions
Nigeria found it difficult to close down the score when they faced Australia in Las Vegas during the FIBA exhibition games. Although they performed well against Team USA, they should be able to deliver more consistent results if they want to get past the group stage.
They come in as underdogs, but we know that the team can produce surprising results if they get some traction early on. On the other hand, the Boomers eye a deep run in the Olympics with positive results coming from their previous games, which they hope to continue.
