Top Boxing Betting Picks of the Week – December 8th, 2022

By Hank Blaine

Three of the most popular boxers on the planet are in action on Saturday. Teofimo Lopez returns to the ring to take on Sandor Martin in New York, Michael Conlan goes against Karim Guerfi in Belfast, and the great Terence Crawford is in action versus David Avanesyan in a bout in Nebraska. Also, Josh “The Leeds Warrior” Warrington has a fight scheduled for Saturday. Keep reading for boxing odds, analysis, and free picks for those three bouts as well as two other terrific fights happening on Dec. 10.

Top Boxing Betting Picks of the Week (December 8th, 2022)

Conlan vs. Guerfi – SSE Arena, Belfast, Northern Ireland (ESPN+)

  • When: Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022. 1:00pm ET.

Jon Fernandez vs. Samuel Molina

Conlan and Guerfi both head into this bout off wins. Karim bested Ricardo Mercado on points. Conlan got the best of Miguel Marriaga via unanimous decision victory.

Most believe Michael continues rebuilding his once promising career. After going undefeated in his first 16 bouts, Conlan fell to Leigh Wood via twelfth round TKO in March this year.

If we accept Conlan wins, and he should, we’re left with handicapping the total rounds. In that sense, neither pugilist will want to get into danger. So over is the play.

Boxing Betting Pick: Michael Conlan Over 7.5 -115

Warrington vs. Lopez – First Direct Arena, Leeds, Yorkshire, England (DAZN)

  • When: Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022. 2:00pm ET.

Ebanie Bridges vs. Shannon O’Connell // IBF World Female Bantamweight Title

Ebanie Bridges and Shannon O’Connell step into the ring for the IBF World Bantamweight Women’s belt in the co-main event on the Warrington versus Lopez main card.

We can make a case for either women to win the title. Bridges is 8-1 with 3 technical knockout victories. Ebanie is on a 3-fight winning streak.

O’Connell is on an 8-match winning streak. The underdog in this hasn’t lost since 2017 and has 11 knockout victories from 23 bouts. Bridges can for sure win. However, the odds make the dog the play.

Boxing Betting Pick: Shannon O’Connell +140

Josh Warrington vs. Luis Alberto Lopez // IBF World Featherweight Title

The Leeds Warrior is one of the most popular boxers in Great Britain, which is one of the reasons he’s offering -135 to beat a fantastic fighter like Luis Alberto Lopez.

Warrington suffered a knockout loss to Mauricio Lara in February 2021. Josh bounced back with a draw versus Lara in the rematch. Then in his last fight, Josh beat Kiko Martinez via seventh round TKO.

Warrington won’t have the same success versus Lopez. Luis’s last loss happened back in 2019. Lopez has won 7 of his last 8 bouts via KO or TKO. He won the eighth via split-decision. Also, Luis has a massive edge in power because Josh has won just 3 fights via TKO or KO. This is for the IBF Featherweight title. Lopez grabs the strap.

Boxing Betting Pick: Luis Alberto Lopez +104

Crawford vs. Avanesyan – CHI Health Center, Omaha, NE

  • When: Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022. 9:00pm ET.

Terence Crawford vs. David Avanesyan // WBO World Welterweight Title

Russian boxer David Avanesyan is a good fighter. He’s also in great form having won his last six bouts. But Avanesyan is up against one of the very best boxers on the planet on Saturday.

Bud Crawford is 38-0 with 29 TKO or KO wins. No doubt, Crawford wins this. The question is does he end Avanesyan’s night before the eighth? Based on the fact Avanesyan has suffered a single stoppage loss, in the sixth in 2018, the answer is no.

Boxing Betting Pick: Terence Crawford Over 7.5 -115

Lopez vs. Martin – Hulu Theater at MSG, New York, NY (ESPN)

  • When: Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022. 9:00pm ET.

Teofimo Lopez vs. Sandor Martin

Sandor Martin’s claim to fame is upsetting Mikey Garcia in 2021. After watching the fight for the second time, it’s obvious Sandor knows what he’s doing.

Garcia had Martin moving backwards in the early rounds. Also, after the second viewing, Sandor took advantage of Garcia’s slow hand speed and slow footwork.

Lopez has much faster hands. However, Sandor’s boxing IQ is off the charts. Not only that, but Martin fights taller than Teofimo, meaning he will use his length to time when Lopez moves forward.

Teofimo still fights with his hands down. That should prove to be a detriment. Lopez should win but he’s not worth backing at -714.

Boxing Betting Pick: Sandor Martin +425
