Top Boxing Betting Picks of the Week – January 5th, 2023
Boxing takes a backseat this week in the United States and in England but Japan rings in the New Year with a terrific fight card. Odds have yet to land. However, that doesn’t mean we can’t pick winners for the top matches on the card. The main event pits Kazuto Ioka versus Joshua Franco for Joshua’s flyweight straps. Check out analysis and free picks for six of this Saturday’s top boxing events.

Davis vs. Garcia – Capital One Arena, Washington, D.C. (Showtime PPV)
- When: Saturday, January. 7, 2022. 8:00pm ET.
Rashidi Ellis vs. Romain Villa
24-0 Rashidi “Speedy” Ellis isn’t just fast. Ellis is also powerful. The 29-year-old welterweight has knocked out 15 of his opponents. The fantastic record explains why Ellis is a big chalk over Romain Villa.
But the underdog in this also has a decent record. Villa is 25-1. Not only that, but the underdog has ended the night early for 24 of his opponents. Still, Villa hasn’t fought against top competition the way Ellis has.
Villa’s lone loss was a split-decision defeat to Marcos Villasana in 2019. Ellis wins this bout. It won’t be before the total rounds.
Boxing Betting Pick: Rashidi Ellis -500 Over 10.5
Demetrius Andrade vs. Demond Nicholson
Middleweight Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade has a fantastic 31-0 record. Andrade has stopped 19 of his opponents. In his last three fights, Andrade has bested Luke Keeler, Liam Williams, and highly regarded Jason Quigley.
Demon Nicholson is 26-4-1. Nicholson has 22 stoppage victories to his credit. Nicholson fought well in 2022, beating Gabriel Pham via KO and ending Christopher Brooker’s night via TKO.
As one might expect, taking on Andrade is a huge step-up for Nicholson. Demond won’t win this fight. But he could force a decision because Andrade last fought in 2021.
Boxing Betting Pick: Demetrius Andrade -3333 Over 7.5
Gervonta Davis -1250 vs. Hector Luis Garcia +700 // WBA Regular Lightweight Title
There’s a reason Gervonta “Tank” Davis is the -1250 chalk to take down a fighter of Hector Luis Garcia’s quality. Tank is one of the best pound-for-pound boxers on the planet.
Although short, Davis has won 25 of his 27 bouts via stoppage. Gervonta relishes the idea of knocking out Ryan Garcia. To get the chance, Davis must get by Hector Luis.
Saturday’s Garcia is 16-0 with 10 knockout wins. Hector Luis hails from the Dominican Republic, where the only other sport more popular than boxing requires standing at a plate and hitting a 90-mile per hour fastball.
Luis doesn’t put himself into bad positions. He’s also taller. So there’s a chance this goes over the total. As far as the winner is concerned, Davis has much better boxing skills than many realize. Gervonta wins, but he doesn’t end Hector’s night until the ninth or tenth.
Boxing Betting Pick: Gervonta Davis -1250 Over 7.5
