Why Bet on the Cleveland Browns?

That’s now three straight defeats for the Cleveland Browns, who suffered their first double-digit loss of the season at the hands of the New England Patriots this past Sunday, 38-15. Despite the team’s 2-4 record to date, though, Cleveland is just one game behind for the top spot in the division standings currently shared by the Ravens and the Bengals.

The Browns can’t wait for embattled quarterback Deshaun Watson to return from his suspension, as backup QB Jacoby Brissett is starting to regress already. After a handful of decent starts, Brissett has now thrown four interceptions in his past three starts; two of which came in the Week 7 loss to the Pats. Stud running back Nick Chubb was also stifled by New England’s stout front seven and finished with just 56 rushing yards for the day after entering Week 6 as the league’s top rusher.

While Cleveland’s offense gets a bit of a pass for being outclassed by the Patriots, the same cannot be said about the team’s defense. The Browns are currently giving up the second-most points to their opponents with an average of 27.2 points allowed per game this season and are also ranked in the bottom third of the league in average yards allowed per contest. Simply put, they’ll need to go back to basics and get Chubb heavily involved in the run game to try and prevent a fourth straight defeat if the defense doesn’t pick up its slack.

Why Bet on the Baltimore Ravens?

To most NFL fans’ surprise, the Baltimore Ravens became the latest victim of the recent New York Giants hype, as the G-Men stunned the Ravens and pulled off a tight 24-20 victory in the Meadowlands in Week 6. Baltimore has alternated wins and losses to start their campaign and can’t seem to get a leg up on the AFC North competition.

Even more concerning than Cleveland’s woes with Brissett is the volatile performances from Baltimore’s franchise player Lamar Jackson. The former league MVP now has six INTs for the season in as many weeks, recently finishing with just 17 of 32 completions for 210 yards against the Giants. A late pick in the fourth quarter by Lamar ended up being Baltimore’s undoing as New York rallied back from a 10-point deficit in the final frame.

Just like the Browns, though, the Ravens’ defense hasn’t been as dominant as it has in recent past. Baltimore has the fifth-worst passing defense right now (267.7 PYAPG). On the bright side, the team is tied for the third-most forced fumbles in the NFL with 12 and the Ravens have to capitalize on such takeaways to prevent blowing another huge lead late in the contest.

Browns vs. Ravens Betting Trends

  • The Browns are 1-5 in their last six regular-season road games (2-6 ATS).
  • The Browns are 1-4 in their previous five meetings against Baltimore (0-5 ATS).
  • The totals have gone under in four of Cleveland’s last five regular-season games on the road.
  • The Ravens are similarly 1-5 in their last six regular-season home games.
  • The Ravens are 4-2 in their last six outings as six-point favorites or better (3-3 ATS).
  • The totals have gone under in five of Baltimore’s last seven games in general.

Browns vs. Ravens Expert Betting Predictions

Both Baltimore and Cleveland aren’t playing very good football right now and the former is getting more praise than the latter mainly of the strength of Lamar Jackson’s presence under center. It would be wrong to underestimate the Browns’ running game, though. We wouldn’t be surprised if they manage to cover the relatively large spread as road dogs or even outright win this Week 7 matchup, especially if Jackson is flustered by the Browns’ defensive schemes.
