Because the Cowboys and Steelers are in this game, they will each have four preseason games this year while the rest of the NFL will have three each – barring any postponements, of course. Dallas and Pittsburgh also were allowed to open training camp earlier than other clubs.

There was no 2020 preseason because of the COVID pandemic so this will be Mike McCarthy’s first exhibition game in charge of the Cowboys. The second-year coach enters the year on a very hot seat after Dallas finished 6-10 last year. It also wasn’t McCarthy’s fault that star QB Dak Prescott went down with a season-ending injury in Week 5. He’s good to go now, but will not play here. As noted above, no starters on either side are expected to go.

Why Bet on the Dallas Cowboys

Probably the biggest thing to watch on Dallas is the backup QB competition between Cooper Rush and Garrett Gilbert as both should play plenty. Also, the Cowboys will have a bit of a new defensive look under new coordinator Dan Quinn, the former Atlanta Falcons head coach.

Dallas is 3-3 straight up all-time in this game, last playing in 2017 and beating Arizona 20-18. In their past 10 preseason games overall, the Cowboys are 4-6 SU and 3-6-1 against the spread.

Why Bet on the Pittsburgh Steelers?

This likely begins the final NFL season for Steelers QB and future Hall of Famer Ben Roethlisberger, although he’s not taking the field, either. Fans most likely won’t get a look at Pittsburgh first-round pick and one of the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year favorites in former Alabama running back Najee Harris.

The Steelers have a three-way battle as the backup to Big Ben in Mason Rudolph, former Washington first-round pick Dwayne Haskins and Joshua Dobbs with Rudolph the early leader.

Coach Mike Tomlin has a new offensive coordinator in Matt Canada, promoted from quarterbacks coach. The Steelers announced that they were not renewing offensive coordinator Randy Fichtner’s contract after their 2020 season ended with an upset loss to the Cleveland Browns in the wild-card round.

Pittsburgh is also 3-3 straight up all-time in this game, last playing in 2015 and losing 14-3 to Minnesota. In their past 10 preseason games, the Steelers are 7-3 SU and 6-3-1 ATS.
