Creighton vs. Providence NCAAB Odds and Preview – February 14th, 2023
Hugely important college basketball game in the Big East on Tuesday, when No. 18 Creighton visits No. 24 Providence, with the winner still very much in the running for the conference title and top seed in the Big East Tournament.
On Jan. 14, Creighton won at Providence 73-67 despite blowing a 16-point second-half lead. The Bluejays withstood the rally and closed with a game-ending 17-11 run. Ryan Kalkbrenner (21), Trey Alexander (20) and Baylor Scheierman (19) combined for 60 of CU’s 73 points. Despite being outrebounded 44-29 for the game and 20-8 in second chance points, Creighton outscored PC 46-32 in the paint. CU also owned a 10-2 advantage in transition points. The Bluejays shot 48.1 percent from the floor, 18.8 percent from deep and 78.3 percent at the line while dishing 13 assists against just four turnovers.
Bryce Hopkins (20 points, 10 rebounds) and Ed Croswell (10 points, 10 rebounds) contributed double-doubles for Providence. The Friars had four starters finish with four personal fouls, and the backcourt trio of Alyn Breed, Noah Locke and Devin Carter combined to shoot 12-for-36 from the field and 3-of-14 from downtown.

Why Bet on the Creighton Bluejays?
Creighton (17-8) enters on an eight-game winning streak, which started with that first Providence game. The Bluejays are off a 56-53 home win over No. 21 UConn on Saturday. Alexander led Creighton with 17 points in the game, while Kalkbrenner finished with 12 and Scheierman added 11. The Bluejays shot 39.6 percent from the field, 31.3 percent from deep and 76.5 percent at the line. CU outscored UConn 13-8 off turnovers, 24-18 in the paint and 9-0 in transition.
The Huskies shot a season-low 32.3 percent, but did make 100 percent at the line while tying a season-low with four free throw attempts. The Huskies won the rebound battle 40-34, turning 18 offensive rebounds into 13 second chance points.
Creighton improved to 150-49 all-time as a ranked team and 16-17 all-time in games involving two ranked teams. Creighton has won six straight home games involving multiple top-25 teams. CU is now 5-4 against top-25 teams this season. Those five wins are tied for second-most in a single-season in program history, one behind the 2019-20 club.
Why Bet on the Providence Friars?
Providence (18-7) was upset 73-68 at St. John’s on Saturday. The Johnnies built a big early lead before a split crowd at Madison Square Garden and stayed in front nearly the entire way. Providence tied the score early in the second half, but was never able to surge back ahead. A poor free-throw shooting team all season, St. John’s attempted only one foul shot in the first half but finished 15 for 18 at the line (83%).
Hopkins led the way for the Friars as he tied his career high with 29 points. He also added nine rebounds. Carter chipped in with 12 points and seven rebounds. Providence finished 24-72 (33.3%) from the field, 7-23 (30.4%) from three and 13-17 (76.5%) from the free throw line. Hopkins leads the team in scoring (16.6) and rebounding (9.2). He has posted double-doubles in four of the past seven games – he has nine on the season.
PC is 6-0 in Big East home games this season with wins over Marquette, UConn, St. John’s, DePaul, Butler and Georgetown. The Friars are 5-5 in road games this season, including 4-4 in Big East action.
Providence has posted an 18-14 mark all-time versus Creighton, including a 12-11 record since Creighton joined the Big East in 2013-14. The Friars are 10-4 at home against Creighton.
The Friars have posted a 129-276 (.319) mark all-time vs. Top 25 teams, including a 2-2 mark this season.
