Early 2023-24 College Basketball Season Betting Predictions

By Hank Blaine

College Basketball is just around the corner, which is why in this blog, we go over the early season tournaments that are bound to set the tone for the 2023-2024 Men’s College Basketball Season. Six teams with Final Four aspirations: Kansas, Purdue, Tennessee, Marquette, Gonzaga, and UCLA, play in the Maui Invitational. We’ll start with the Maui Invitational since their title game happens on Nov 19.

2023 Maui Invitational Final Odds & Preview (Nov. 19)

  • Kansas +210
  • Purdue +400
  • Tennessee +500
  • Marquette +500
  • Gonzaga +700
  • UCLA +1200
  • Syracuse +3000

Kansas and Purdue boast two of the best bigs in college hoops. Zach Edey, threigning player of the year, throws down for the Boilermakers. Hunter Dickinson plays for Kansas.

Dickinson and Edey know each other well. Last season, Hunter blocked shots for Michigan. Watch to see which big gets the upper hand but no matter who wins the Dickinson versus Edey battle, Kansas should take the Maui invitational.

For sure, Tennessee, Marquette, Gonzaga, and UCLA have a shot to win the Maui. However, Kansas is the most complete team. The Jayhawks were a title contender without Dickinson because Dajuan Harris is one of the nation’s top guards and KJ Adams has All-American written all over him. Go chalky to cash.

2023 Maui Invitational Pick: Kansas

2023 Battle 4 Atlantis Odds & Preview (Nov. 20)

  • North Carolina +320
  • Arkansas +320
  • Villanova +380
  • Memphis +450
  • Stanford +1100
  • Texas Tech +1300
  • Michigan +1600
  • UNI +6000

This season’s Battle 4 Atlantis is loaded with quality teams. Armando Bacot must stay healthy for North Carolina to have a good season. Bacot is one of the nation’s top frontline players, but the graduate student has suffered through injuries and hasn’t been his best.

When it comes to this tournament, North Carolina and Arkansas are favorites. But Villanova is the pick. Second year coach Kyle Neptune’s squad has a proven leader in Justin Moore. Not only that, but the rest of the projected starting five appear solid. Tyler Burton, Hakeem Hart, and T.J. Bamba are transfers that will immediately contribute.

Arkansas, Memphis, and Stanford have a shot. So if you don’t like the Tar Heels or the Wildcats, consider putting money behind one of those teams.

2023 Battle 4 Atlantis Pick: Villanova

2023 Vegas Showdown Odds & Preview (Nov. 22)

  • BYU +170
  • Arizona State +225
  • Vanderbilt +380
  • North Carolina State +380

The 2023 Vegas Showdown boasts a battle between 4 teams that aren’t likely to do much during the regular season. None of the 4 programs are elite.

None of the 4 programs boast All-American type players, either. So when faced with such a situation, it makes sense to pull the trigger on a team offering a decent payout. Which team is best to back? Vandy or NC State?

Among the 2, Vanderbilt is the play. Senior guard Tyrin Lawrence averaged 13 points and over 4 boards per game. Lawrence will average more this season. He could take over the Vegas Showdown and lead the Commodores to the tournament title.

2023 Battle 4 Atlantis Pick: Vanderbilt

2023 ESPN Invitational Odds & Preview (Nov. 22)

  • Texas A&M +250
  • Florida Atlantic +250
  • Iowa State +400
  • Boise State +850
  • Virginia Tech +1200
  • Penn State +1200
  • VCU +2500
  • Butler +4000

Texas A&M, Iowa State, and Boise State are solid programs, but nobody should beat Florida Atlantic in the ESPN Invitational. FAU, in fact, should duplicate or at least get close to duplicating the 31-win season they had in 2022-2023.

The Owls return all 5 starters from their Final Four squad. Nick Bolton, Johnell Davis, Vladislav Goldin, Bryan Greenlee, and Alijah Martin are back. Not only does the starting five return, but the bench is deep.

Jalen Gaffney, Tre Carroll, Isaiah Gaines, Alejandro Ralat, and Giancarlo Rosado are almost another starting five. In addition, after the disappointing loss to San Diego State in this past season’s Final Four, Florida Atlantic is hungry. Dustin May’s team is loaded and will dominate the ESPN Invitational.

2023 Battle 4 Atlantis Pick: Florida Atlantic
