Why bet on the San Francisco Giants?
The San Francisco Giants’ losing streak ends at two games after they came away with a literally huge 12-10 road victory over the Atlanta Braves Tuesday. The Giants have won their last three serieses that began with a sweep of division rivals the Los Angeles Dodgers on June 11, but they remain 3.5 games behind the Dodgers from the top spot of the crowded NL West standings.
It was a huge bounce-back showing for second-generational talent Mike Yastrzemski, who hit a two-run double to give San Francisco a sixth-inning lead that the team would hang onto the rest of the way. Fellow outfielder Joc Pederson also stayed hot, hitting a solo homer in the seventh to give the Giants a 9-7 run cushion, with Pederson now reaching base in eight straight games.
The Giants will turn back to revitalized starting pitcher Carlos Rodon (6-4, 2.84 ERA) for Wednesday’s clash. After a relatively shaky start to the season, the All-Star lefty has strung together back-to-back stellar outings. Across his last two starts and 14 full innings of work, Rodon has not allowed a single run whilst also putting up eight strikeouts in each of those starts against the Dodgers and the Pirates.
Why bet on the Atlanta Braves?
Although the Atlanta Braves lost for the third time in five games since their amazing 14-game win streak, they’ve still remained very competitive as seen with their double-digit scoring output in Tuesday’s loss and a tense 2-1 victory over San Francisco the day prior. Atlanta is now six games behind the New York Mets for the NL East lead with two more meetings against the Giants and a three-game homestand against the mighty Dodgers on the horizon as well.
Cleanup hitter Matt Olson hit a three-run homer in the third inning for the Braves’ only lead of Tuesday’s contest, finishing with two dingers and six RBIs. Star leadoff man Ronald Acuna also knocked one out of the park and went 3-for-5 after going 0-for-9 in his last two games. The Braves became just the second team with over 100 home runs for the season, with the Yankees (111 HRs) being the only other true heavy-hitter in the majors.
Charlie Morton (4-3, 5.08 ERA) will take the mound for Atlanta in the third game of the series. The 38-year-old veteran is coming off his best start of the season by far, racking up nine 9Ks in seven scoreless innings against the Cubs. Prior to that start, though, Morton allowed at least four earned runs in each of his four prior starts to inferior opposition in the form of the Pirates, Rockies, Diamondbacks, and Phillies.
Giants vs. Braves MLB Betting Trends
- The Giants are 4-3 in the last seven road games.
- The Giants are 3-4 in the last seven meetings against the Braves since the start of last season.
- The totals went under in four of San Fran’s last five games away from the Bay.
- The Braves were on an eight-game home winning streak prior to Tuesday’s loss.
- The Braves have also gone 6-1 over the last seven games against teams from the NL West.
- The totals went under in five of the last seven games played in Truist Park.
Giants vs. Braves Betting Prediction
It doesn’t get as close as this, especially with both San Francisco and Atlanta having taken one game apiece in this series thus far. The Braves may have home-field advantage working in their favor, but the Giants will have the more reliable arm in Rodon leading the charge for Thursday’s rubber match. Call this a toss-up between two of the NL’s top Wild-Card contenders to date.
