Why bet on the San Francisco Giants?

The San Francisco Giants’ pitching corps wasn’t at the top of its game in Game 2 Saturday, as they fell 9-2 to the Los Angeles Dodgers to tie the series at one game apiece. As if matters could not get any more intense in this age-old rivalry, that win keeps the Dodgers in pace with the Giants across their regular and postseason meetings this year, as San Fran holds a slim at 11-10 win-loss record.

NL Cy Young candidate Kevin Gausman was tagged four runs in 5.1 innings pitched in Game 2. The Giants will now count on the arm of Alex Wood (10-4, 3.83 ERA), who’ll look to get some revenge against his former team. Wood’s last postseason appearance was in last year’s World Series, wherein he threw four scoreless innings for Los Angeles.

The 30-year-old lefty has a decent 3.05 ERA in 52 games played in Dodgers Stadium, along with 17 wins. San Francisco’s bats need to wake up, though, as they failed to go yard in Game 2 after knocking out three home runs in the series opener.

Why bet on the Los Angeles Dodgers?

Taking the second game in Oracle Park in impressive fashion was just what the Los Angeles Dodgers needed to stay alive in the NLDS. They now have their strongest arm ready for Game 3 at home when Max Scherzer (15-4, 2.46 ERA) takes the mound.

Scherzer will look to pitch another gem after his relatively subpar showing at the NL Wild Card Game against the Cardinals. The Dodgers did win all 12 games that the three-time Cy Young award winner pitched in after he was traded from Washington, though, including the aforementioned NLWC.

While everything is trending in LA’s way, the team would still be best to exert caution against a Giants team that won three of the last four meetings held in Dodger Stadium and six of 10 overall from this regular season. Only one player failed to register a hit in Saturday’s win, and the Dodgers will need every hit they can get in support of Scherzer’s start.

Giants vs. Dodgers MLB Betting Trends

  • The Giants are 11-1 in their last 12 regular-season games on the road.
  • On the flip side, the Giants are just 1-5 in their last six postseason road games; albeit with their last playoff appearance dating back to 2016.
  • The run totals have gone under in six of San Francisco’s last nine games in general.
  • The Dodgers have a 15-game home win streak entering Game 3.
  • The Dodgers are 9-3 at home during the playoffs since their 2020 title-winning campaign.
  • The totals have gone over in all five of LA’s most recent homestands.

Giants vs. Dodgers Series Betting Prediction

Couple Game 2’s result with a home game, and the Dodgers have every reason to be the favorite to win Monday’s rubber match. On the other hand, the Giants have played much better than their NL West arch nemesis, even in Dodger Stadium. The current odds would also imply that both teams make compelling cases for one another as the eventual winner of the ever-so crucial Game 3.
