Why Bet on the Atlanta Hawks?

The Hawks fell in the hands of the Celtics for a third time in the 2023 NBA Playoffs’ first round. They were outplayed offensively by Boston. Atlanta was only 43.9% from the field across four quarters. Although they did slightly well from deep, hitting 37.8% of their attempts on 14 of 37 shooting, the visitors proved to be the better team that night. Atlanta did capitalize on their free-throw attempts and hit 21 of 24 shots from the line.

Trae Young again led the squad with 35 points on 11 of 26 from the field. He also recorded an incredible 15 assists in 41 minutes on the floor. Meanwhile, Dejounte Murray provided some support with 23 points on top of a team-high nine rebounds.

Quin Snyder’s boys protected the ball better and limited total turnovers to 12. However, they were significantly slower in transition and scored only eight fast break points. The Hawks were also quiet in attacking the rim with just 44 points in the paint.

Atlanta does pretty well on the offensive end of the floor with third league-high points per game record of 118.2 per game on a top-ten 48.2% shooting. They do well on this side of the court but struggle to defend. Throughout the regular season, the Hawks only managed a 17th-ranked defensive rating of 115.4.

Why Bet on the Boston Celtics?

The Celtics have been amazing on offense and defense this season. Boston averages 117.9 points per game on 47.4% shooting, with a trio of top-five figures on the two and three-point range to go with a fourth-best free-throw percentage. Defensively, the Atlantic Division franchise locked down their competitors with 111.4 opponent points per game on 46.3% shooting–both of which are top-five figures. Boston is easily the better team on paper and is on track to secure a spot in the second round.

This series can soon be over if the Celts keep the momentum going. They outplayed the Hawks on the field last time and hit 46 of 89 shots on top of a 40.0% three-point percentage. They kept playing aggressively and led the game in rebounding with nine offensive and 40 defensive boards. Robert Williams III dominated the game with 15 boards and 13 points.

Leading the Celtics to a Game 4 victory was Jayson Tatum. He finished his stint with 31 points on eight of 20 from the field and 11 of 12 from the line. Al Horford opened up several scoring opportunities and led the Celts with five assists, while Jaylen Brown matched Tatum with 31 points.

Hawks vs. Celtics Betting Trends

  • The Hawks won two of the last three road games (2-3 ATS).
  • Atlanta is 2-3 in its last five games (2-3 ATS).
  • The totals went over in three of the Hawks’ last seven road contests against the Celtics.
  • The Celtics are 3-2 in the last five playoff games at TD Garden (3-2 ATS).
  • Boston lost once in its last three meetings against the Hawks (2-1 ATS).
  • The totals went under in four of the Celtics’ last five postseason games at home.

Hawks vs. Celtics Game 5 Expert Betting Predictions

Both teams look healthy for Game 5 of the series. However, the Celtics currently run the show after a Game 4 win. They turned things around and defended with the same level of pressure they showed in the first two games. Meanwhile, the Hawks now have eyes on not leaving the playoffs early. The only chance they have to get past the first round is to stretch the series to Game 7. If Young can have another big game, we might just see Atlanta closing things down. Covering the spread remains possible given their single-digit deficit last meeting. Ultimately, the hosts remain the overwhelming favorites here unless the Hawks can pull off a miracle.
