Hornets vs. Heat 2022 NBA Odds and Preview – November 10th

By Jeff Stinger

The Hornets hit the road in hopes of ending a six-game losing streak in this matchup against the Heat. Head coach Steve Clifford struggled to build momentum since their last win against the Warriors in October. They will try to improve a 3-8 record following a ten-point defeat in the hands of the Blazers. Meanwhile, last season’s top Eastern Conference seed will try to rebound from a close three-point defeat to the Blazers. Miami has been producing underwhelming results as of late, which features four losses in six games.

Nitrobetting shares the latest news, NBA odds, and special features throughout the 2022-23 NBA season. Let’s take a look at the upcoming Hornets vs. Heat face-off in this preview.

Why Bet on the Charlotte Hornets?

The Hornets remain crippled without two of their starters, LaMelo Ball and Gordon Hayward. This puts guard Dennis Smith Jr. and forward Kelly Oubre Jr. in the frontline. Both players have been performing well for the franchise, averaging 9.73 points and 17.64 points per game. Terry Rozier tops this stat for the Hornets with an average of 22.75 points per game.

Charlotte averages 109.1 points per game on 44.2% shooting. They have to improve on this end of the floor to hang with the Heat’s numbers, but once Rozier, Oubre Jr., and PJ Washington pick up the pace, this should be doable for the roster. The team maintains impressive ball rotation and averages 26.5 assists per game–the ninth-best record in the league.

Defensively, the Hornets register a fifth-best league record of 55.4 boards per game. They do this while keeping opponents under 114 points per game on 45.9% shooting. The squad maintains good perimeter defense too, keeping opponents under 33% from beyond the arc.

Why Bet on the Miami Heat?

Like their opponents, the hosts face injury woes leading up to the contest. Tyler Herro is day-to-day after picking up an ankle injury. Caleb Martin is also doubtful for the game with a quad injury. Second-choice guard Victor Oladipo is yet to make his debut in a Miami jersey since suffering a knee injury during training camp. We expect to see Max Strus or Duncan Robinson covering for the starters on Thursday night.

The Miami Heat averages 108.0 points per game on 45.0% shooting. They might not have the best two and three-point shooting figures at 52.3% and 34.4%, respectively, but the squad does make the most of its trips on the line. In 11 games, the Heat averaged 87.7% from the line and is currently the league’s best record. Looking at the defensive side of things, the team holds opponents to 109.2 points per game on 47.1% shooting. They also have imposing interior defense and limit opponents to 42.5 points in the paint per game.

Hornets vs. Heat Expert Betting Prediction

Both competitors struggle to get things going early on. They share a similar record, but it’s surprising to see a playoff contender like the Heat go through this much turbulence early into the season. Nevertheless, they have the statistical edge on paper on top of home advantage. But don’t overlook the Hornets just yet. The team hasn’t been in great shape, but covering the spread and pulling off a surprise upset is not off the table. Good things await this team once they pull themselves out of the losing rut.
