How Dota 2’s Patch 7.33 Update Impacts the Berlin Major 2023

By Jeff Stinger

Dota 2, one of the most popular Esports games in the world, just got a fresh coat of paint to reinvigorate the game’s community. Patch 7.33 New Frontiers, which was released on April 20th, brought plenty of new exciting content and balance changes for players to sink their teeth into. The pro gamers at the ongoing Berlin Major are experiencing all the new bells and whistles first-hand as well for a great overview of what to expect in Dota 2’s meta in the near future.

Nitrobetting is here to upload chunks of data on the latest news and developments from the realm of Esports. This time, let’s break down the key changes that came from Patch 7.33 of Dota 2 and how it has impacted the ESL One Berlin Major 2023 thus far.

Dota 2 Patch 7.33 Update and its Impact on the ESL One Berlin Major 2023

Dota 2’s Biggest Patch Update in Years

Perhaps the most obvious addition to Dota 2 by way of its Patch 7.33 New Frontiers update is the new game map itself. The map is noticeably larger and has more side activities than ever before. Roshan will now spawn on two different pits instead of just one, and there are new interactable items such as Lotus Pools, Twin Gates, and Watchers just waiting to be exploited.

There are a ton of changes as well not just to the map, but also with the items and heroes themselves. Characters such as Clinkz, Arc Warden, and Venomancer all got significant overhauls, while the infamous Black King Bar item got a game-changing rework apart from dozens of other items.

The Latest from Berlin Major 2023

Given that Patch 7.33b was released mere hours before the start of Berlin Major 2023, the tournament has yielded some quite peculiar results in the standings. Group A is currently led by the Gaimin Gladiators with a 6-2 record thus far despite the group having heavy hitters such as PSG.LGD, Evil Geniuses TSM, and Team Liquid. Meanwhile, OG is still the team to beat over in Group B with a 7-1 record thus far. Shopify and Team Spirit aren’t far behind with identical 5-3 records, whereas Talon Esports has come limping out of the gates with a lackluster 1-5 start.

With nearly a week of tinkering around the new quicks of Patch 7.33 (and Patch 7.33b), the developments in the final matches of the Berlin Major’s group stage will be hard to predict. In turn, betting on the second major tournament of the year and the following Dota 2 events will only get even more exciting as players are still feeling out the new meta.
