Why bet on the New York Mets?

The New York Mets could not have asked for better momentum heading into their showdown against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Not only are the Mets on a six-game win streak, they even picked up a stellar 5-0 shutout victory over the Nationals Wednesday to complete their second series sweep against their division rivals, with the other casualty being the Philadelphia Phillies.

The back-half of New York’s batting order got it done against the Nats, with catcher Tomas Nido going 4-for-for with three RBIs, and with J.D. Davis finishing with two hits and three runs scored. It just goes to show that the Mets have hitters aplenty, even if standouts like Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor (a combined 0-for-5 on Wednesday) aren’t up to par in the heart of the order.

Taijuan Walker (3-0, 2.83 ERA) will start Thursday’s series opener in Los Angeles as he hopes to add to the Mets’ majors-best 10 shutout wins for the season. Walker hasn’t allowed a single run in four of his seven starts this season, but the 2021 All-Star selection did give up at least five hits to opponents in no fewer than five innings of action across his last three outings.

Why bet on the Los Angeles Dodgers?

Unlike the Mets, the Los Angeles Dodgers are experiencing an unlikely downward spiral of late. They’ve just been swept at home by the lowly Pittsburgh Pirates for the first time in over two decades, and that three-game series was capped off by their 8-4 loss Tuesday.

The Dodgers were stunningly swept in a series for the first time this season and will look to get back on the right track against a more formidable foe in the Mets, unfortunately. On the bright side, they still managed to rack up 12 hits against the Pirates in Wednesday’s loss, with superstar Mookie Betts knocking a two-run homer out of the park in the ninth inning before failing to make a surreal comeback down six runs in the final frame.

Perhaps LA’s bullpen just needed a hard reset after surrendering at least five Pittsburgh runs in each of the three games of the series. Thankfully, Tony Gonsolin (5-0, 1.80 ERA) is about to take the mound for Dodger Blue suffering a bit of the blues. Gonsolin’s been his team’s most consistent starter, with the Cali-born righty pitching six full innings and racking up seven strikeouts apiece in each of his last three outings, whilst also not allowing more than two runs in each of those starts.

Mets vs. Dodgers MLB Betting Trends

  • The Mets are 6-4 in the last 10 road games.
  • The Mets are just 3-11 against Los Angeles since the 2019 season.
  • The totals went over in three of New York’s last four games away from Citi Field.
  • The Dodgers won five straight home games prior to getting swept by the Pirates.
  • The Dodgers are 5-2 in the last seven games against teams from the NL East.
  • The totals went under on four of LA’s last six games in general.

Mets vs. Dodgers Betting Prediction

The Dodgers’ recent funk coupled with the Mets’ sudden surge puts Thursday’s betting odds in for quite a loop. Although Los Angeles’ skid is quite a concern, they’re still baseball’s best dynasty right now for a reason with their wealth of firepower on both sides of the ball. Having Gonsolin as the starter for the series opener is also a comforting sign that the Dodgers could very well put an end to their slump already, and also deliver a huge blow to New York’s momentum in the process.
