Basketball has been in evolution for almost 130 years. From the days of peach baskets to plexiglass backboards, men’s college basketball has been in the center of it all, making its unique rules in the process.

The sports is governed by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), along with other collegiate athletic bodies. These other organizations are subdivided into three divisions based on the number and level of scholarships provided to athletes. Each of these organizations has different conferences to divide the teams in groups and each team is selected to a conference base on the location of the schools. At the end of the season, the top 68 teams compete in a month long bracket tournament, which many know as March Madness.
