Nets vs. Suns 2023 NBA Odds and Preview – January 19th

By Jeff Stinger

Nets head coach Jacque Vaughn needs to pick up the pace and quickly bounce back from multiple losses this week. After doing so well in December, Brooklyn lost tempo and is now on the verge of picking up its fourth-consecutive loss. This is their first meeting with the Suns this season, and it helps that the hosts have been of poorer quality in recent weeks. Phoenix is also on a three-game losing streak. But, the kicker here is they dropped nine of their last eleven games before that. This puts them in a stickier situation compared to their next opponents.

Nitrobetting shares the latest news, NBA odds, and special features throughout the 2022-23 NBA season. Let’s get a closer look at the upcoming Nets vs. Suns face-off in this preview.

Why Bet on the Brooklyn Nets?

The Nets have the duo of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving on the injury report. Irving sustained a calf injury but remains under observation until game time, while KD is expected to be out until the first week of February with a knee injury. This means secondary scorers need to step up, including the two other double-digit scorers T.J. Warren and Nicolas Claxton. With Durant and Irving producing over 25 points per game for the Nets, it’s going to be tough for the rest of the lineup to make up for the numbers.

Brooklyn averages 113.5 points per game on top of incredible shooting figures. They average 50.6% shooting, featuring 57.8% from the two-point range and 38.5% from deep–both are top-two records in the league now. More than that, the rest of the Nets lineup shows confidence on the line with an 80.1% free throw percentage.

Many might see the Nets as a one-way team. Having KD and Irving on the squad can easily sway us to think that offense is the only card they have. However, Brooklyn’s numbers don’t lie. As a team, they hold teams to 110.5 points per game on a top-three opponent shooting percentage of 45.1%. The Nets also hold a league-best opponent two-point record of 50.3% paired with a 36.2% opponent three-point percentage.

Why Bet on the Phoenix Suns?

Just like the Nets, the Suns have their starting duo on the injury list. Chris Paul is day-to-day following a hip injury, while Devin Booker is likely out until next week prior to picking up a groin issue. But, with depth, Phoenix has several scoring options in the lineup. Mikal Bridges is doing well with 15.78 points per game. Cameron Payne and Cameron Johnson average upwards of 12 points per game, while Deandre Ayton logs 17.33 points per game.

As a team, the Suns average 112.6 points per game on 46.4% shooting. They are a menacing team from deep and average 38.4% from three. Phoenix also has proper free-throw shooting numbers at 80.1%. Ball movement is something we look forward to from Monty Williams’ crew. They average 26.7 assists per game in 45 contests.

Defensively, the hosts limit their opponents to 112.2 points per game on 47.4% shooting. This includes 36.3% opponent three-point and 53.8% opponent two-point percentages. As for the rebounding side, Ayton leads the pack with 9.74 boards per game and heavily contributes to the Suns’ 51.5 total rebounds per game.

  • The Suns are 4-6 in the previous 10 games at Footprint Center (3-7 ATS).

  • The totals went over in four of the Suns’ last ten home games.

Nets vs. Suns Expert Betting Prediction

The Nets come in shorthanded as Kevin Durant is out. But, the good news here is that Kyrie Irving is on the probable list after sitting out their previous game. The Suns are also understaffed with Booker, Shamet, and a few more names out of the picture. Brooklyn cooled off since Durant picked up a minor injury and they didn’t look comfortable in their loss to the Spurs. On the other hand, the Suns have been in poor form lately and are coming off a blowout defeat at the hands of the Grizzlies. With that said, the Nets get the slight advantage in this one, but covering the spread should be doable for the hosts if Chris Paul receives the green light.
