Why Bet on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish?

Facing tougher adversity in Week 3, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish finally played up to their expected level with a 27-13 win over the then-undefeated Purdue Boilermakers. Notre Dame kept its own unbeaten run intact thanks to a couple of huge performances from its two key offensive weapons.

Sophomore running back Kyren Williams finished with 12 carries for 91 rushing yards, including a 51-yard dash to the end zone. Wide receiver Avery Davis broke loose for a 62-yard touchdown and had team-highs of five catches and 120 receiving yards that afternoon.

Davis will need another solid showing this coming Saturday in support of graduating QB Jack Coan, who could still improve upon his efficiency in the pocket (15-of-30, 223 passing yards, two TDs against Purdue). Part of Coan’s struggles can be attributed to the Irish’s offensive line, which allowed four sacks against the Boilermakers.

Why Bet on the Wisconsin Badgers?

Following a close loss to No. 19 Penn State in Week 2, the Wisconsin Badgers managed to take out their frustrations against the Eastern Michigan Eagles this past weekend by way of a 34-7 beatdown in Madison. That convincing victory was enough for Wisconsin to remain in the AP Top 25 Poll for at least another week, and a win over Notre Dame will likely see the two programs swap placements in the rankings.

It was a rout from top to bottom for the Badgers, who held Eastern Michigan to just 92 yards of total offense. On the other side of the ball, junior running back Chez Mellusi drew from the energy of previous great Wisconsin backs by running for 144 rushing yards and a touchdown on 20 carries. Mellusi wasn’t the only one having a party on the ground, as the Badgers amassed 350 rushing yards as a team against a sad Eagles defense.

While winning big against inferior competition is all well and good, Brain Kelly’s gang has been known to choke against fellow elite programs, making their matchup against the best team from the indies far from a walk in the park.

Notre Dame vs. Wisconsin Betting Trends

  • The Badgers are 3-1 in their last four games against independent FBS teams (SU/ATS).
  • The Badgers are just 2-4 in their last six regular-season games as favorites (1-5 ATS).
  • The totals have gone under in each of those six games wherein Wisconsin was favored to win.

Notre Dame vs. Wisconsin Expert Betting Predictions

It doesn’t get any closer than a huge matchup between two respected FBS schools both looking to crack the top 10 of the AP Poll. The Badgers have a fantastic defense that can create good pressure against Notre Dame’s passing game, whereas the Fighting Irish’s tenacity in the clutch can easily offset their pass-protection issues. That being said, consider this ranked-versus-ranked clash as an affair that could go either way.
