Why Bet on the Oklahoma Sooners?

Despite winning all four of their games this season and being ranked as the sixth-best team in the nation, the Oklahoma Sooners are still far from a dominant program than what their record and ranking would suggest. In Week 4, Oklahoma needed a game-winning field goal to come away with a 16-13 win over the Virginia Tech Hokies in a game that they were trailing all afternoon until the final buzzer.

Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler is still a work in progress at that, as he threw 10 incompletions in 36 attempts last weekend for 256 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception. The Sophomore gunslinger is still completing 74.1 percent of his passes this season, but will need to turn up the jets in the aerial attack of a Sooners program known to have explosive offenses from the recent past.

On the plus side, OU’s defense has held its last three opponents to an average of just 9.7 points per game. This is a good sign going up against a Kansas State side that is coming off its lowest-scoring effort of the season.

Why Bet on the Kansas State Wildcats?

The Kansas State Wildcats’ appearance in the AP Top 25 was fleeting after all, as they lost their No. 22 ranking after losing to the Oklahoma State Cyclones last Saturday, 31-20. Luckily, head coach Chris Klieman has a date ahead against a team that he’s managed to upset in each of his seasons at the helm of the Kansas State program.

The Wildcats have beaten the Sooners in each of their last two conference meetings, and Klieman is now looking to go 3-0 against a true FBS powerhouse. Granted, each of those victories was decided by seven points or less, and they don’t have any momentum heading into their game this weekend. The Cyclones had the right answer for KSU’s biggest strength, which is its running game.

Star running back Deuce Vaughn saw his five-game 100-yard rushing streak dating back to the previous season come to an end after he was held to just 22 yards on 13 carries. Can either Jaren Lewis or Will Howard finally step up? The Two have seen equal amounts of action this season after starting senior Skylar Thompson went down with a knee injury in Week 2, but have displayed mediocre outputs thus far.

Oklahoma vs. Kansas State State Betting Trends

  • The Sooners are 4-1 in their last five regular-season games on the road (3-2 ATS).
  • The Sooners are undefeated in their last eight games against Big 12 rivals (6-2 ATS).
  • The totals have gone under in all four of OU’s most recent conference matchups.
  • The Wildcats are 2-4 in their last six meetings against Oklahoma (3-3 ATS), with those two wins coming in succession these past couple of years as mentioned earlier.
  • The Wildcats are 5-3 in their last eight home games (SU/ATS).
  • The totals have gone over in four of Kansas State’s last six games in general.

Oklahoma vs. Kansas State Expert Betting Predictions

There’s certainly the fear that the Sooners will fall short against the Wildcats for the third consecutive season considering how they haven’t been as dominant as expected to start the 2021 season. Kansas State was just exposed this past week, though, and Oklahoma’s defense is more than capable of rendering KSU’s ground game inept just as well as neighboring Oklahoma State this past week. Then again, the Sooners have been in one close contest too many, leaving the potential for the Wildcats under Klieman’s regime to remain undefeated in three career games against OU.
