Why Bet on the New England Patriots?

Don’t look now; the New England Patriots are back with a vengeance for at least one week following their 54-13 demolition of the lowly New York Jets in Week 7. Bill Belichick and Co. certainly needed that victory after the brutal overtime loss to the Cowboys the week prior.

While the Jets are far from the same playing level as New England right now, the boys from Foxborough will take any significant progress from their rookie QB in Mac Jones. The 15th-overall pick from Alabama snapped his dismal streak of four straight games with an interception against the Jets, finishing with over 300 passing yards for the first time this season to go with a pair of TD passes.

Running back Damien Harris found the end zone for the third straight contest whilst also rushing for over 100 yards in back-to-back weeks. New England’s two best performances this season have both been against the Jets, so the team’s defense best be prepared for a spike in difficulty against a loaded Chargers offense.

Why Bet on the Los Angeles Chargers?

The Los Angeles Chargers could not wait any longer to step back onto the gridiron this week following their humbling 34-6 defeat at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens in Week 6. Thanks to their scheduled bye this past week, though, the Chargers are given ample time to regroup and get right back into the playoff contention picture with their 4-2 record.

LA’s promising young QB Justin Herbert has to put his worst game of the current campaign against the Ravens behind him. Herbert was held to under 200 yards passing for the first time this season during the loss to Baltimore but did throw 11 TD passes without a single pick in the three games prior to that defeat. Those three games resulted in three victories against fierce competition in the form of the Browns, Raiders, and the now-crestfallen Chiefs.

The Pats are a solid test for the Bolts in their return from the bye, as both teams are middle-of-the-pack in a good number of major statistical categories to set up a relatively even playing field at SoFi this Sunday afternoon.

Patriots vs. Chargers Betting Trends

  • The Patriots are 4-3 in their last seven road games (2-5 ATS).
  • The Pats have won six straight meetings against the Chargers (SU/ATS), which includes last season’s 45-0 shutout in Inglewood.
  • The totals went under in four of those six New England games against Los Angeles.
  • The Chargers are 6-3 in their last nine home games (5-4 ATS).
  • The Bolts are just 2-4 against teams from the AFC East since 2019 (1-5 ATS).
  • The totals went under in five of LA’s last six games in general.

Patriots vs. Chargers Expert Betting Predictions

There’s no denying that Los Angeles’ offense is more potent than that of New England’s. However, with the Chargers’ defense being inconsistent all season long and with the Pats’ offense having just been given a jolt to the heart, it’s pretty safe to assume that this matchup is more of a toss-up than a highly-favored situation for the home team with the better record to date.
