Pelicans vs. Warriors 2023 NBA Odds and Preview – March 28th

By Jeff Stinger

The Western Conference race to the playoffs is tighter than ever. Golden State claws its way outside the Play-In Tournament. But, the danger continues to loom as they take on the Pelicans on Tuesday night. New Orleans is only two wins behind the Dubs at eighth seed, while the Timberwolves split the two teams with a 38-37 record.

Steve Kerr and the rest of the Warriors are nearly invisible at home. They have one of the best home records in the league with 30 wins and eight losses. The Pels should fire on all cylinders if they want to snatch this one from the Dubs. But with a four-game win streak, we imagine Willie Green and his crew applying pressure from start to end.

Nitrobetting shares the latest news, NBA odds, and special features throughout the 2022-23 NBA season. Let’s get a closer look at the upcoming Pelicans vs. Warriors face-off in this preview.

Why Bet on the New Orleans Pelicans?

Two of the Pels’ key players, Jose Alvarado and Zion Williams, will have to wait until at least April 7 before they can get in on the action. This means C.J. McCollum, Brandon Ingram, and Jonas Valanciunas takes on most of the workload in the coming days. Ingram and McCollum average over 20 points per game each, while Valanciunas puts up at least 9.94 boards per game. It’s also worth noting that this lineup has been cooking in the last few days with five consecutive wins in the bag.

New Orleans has balanced statistics. On the offensive side, the roster averages 114.2 points per game on an 11th-best 47.9% shooting. The team hits 54.3% of its two-point attempts while going 36.0% from deep. The Pels are also reliable from the line and hit 78.7% of free throws in 75 games played.

Defensively, the Pelicans show quality figures with 112.7 opponent points per game on 47.4% opponent shooting. Although the team can only hold teams to 56.9% from downtown, they do significantly better when defending the arc with a league-best 34.0% opponent three-point shooting percentage.

Why Bet on the Golden State Warriors

The Warriors lost their first home game in a while to the Timberwolves. Steve Kerr looks to rebound from this loss and keep the momentum going as they try to avoid the Play-In Tournament. Two key players, Jordan Poole, and Draymond Green, await a game-time decision. Andrew Wiggins is still unavailable due to personal reasons.

Golden State is the second-highest-scoring team, averaging 118.2 points per game on 47.6% shooting. The Dubs are incredible from anywhere on the floor, making 56.3% of their two-point attempts and hitting 38.2% from deep. Furthermore, the squad is reliable from the line with a 79.3% free-throw shooting rate. Steph Curry tops the team in both minutes and points, recording 29.40 points in 34.86 minutes on the floor. Kevon Looney leads rebounding with 9.13 boards per game, while Draymond Green holds the team-high assists with 6.79 per game.

Defense is the Warriors’ current Kryptonite. Without Wiggins, the team succumbed to a 117.7 opponent points per game average and allowed 47.1% shooting. Although they collect an eleventh-best 51.7 total boards per game, we expect more from the defending champs on this side of the ball.

Pelicans vs. Warriors Betting Trends

  • The Pelicans are 3-2 in their last five road games (3-2 ATS).
  • The Pelicans are 3-2 in their last five meetings against the Warriors (2-3 ATS).
  • The totals went over once in the Pelicans’ last five road contests.
  • The Warriors are 4-1 in their last five games at Chase Center (4-1 ATS).
  • The Warriors are 4-1 in their last five home games versus the Pelicans (4-1 ATS).

Pelicans vs. Warriors Expert Betting Prediction

Golden State is almost untouchable at home. This is where the Pels’ problems come in. The Warriors are yet to lose nine games at home. They won three of their last four games as well. Despite losing pace in their previous game versus the Timberwolves, we know how quickly this squad bounces back. They hold the advantage over New Orleans this time.

However, never discount what the Pelicans can do. They are hotter than the Warriors on paper and can deliver a close scoreline. Covering the spread is feasible for the visitors, but a win demands everything from this team if they want to overtake the Warriors in the Western Conference standings.
