Texas A&M Aggies
Few teams will enter the tournament as hot as the scorching Aggies. From Dec. 27 to their final game on March 4, A&M went 17-3 straight up.
During the stretch, the Aggies went 14-6 against the spread in their final 20 games. Also, A&M upset Alabama in their final regular season game. The Aggies are on fire.
UCLA Bruins
The Bruins ended the regular season on a 10-game winning streak. UCLA capped the regular season with a fantastic 82-73 victory over the rival Arizona Cardinals.
When it comes to covering spreads, UCLA went a respectable 6-3-1 during the streak. The Bruins, should they win the Pac-12 Tournament this weekend, will notch the West Region’s top seed.
Houston Cougars
The Cougars entered conference tournament play the number one ranked team in the nation. Houston went 20-1 straight up in their final 21 games. The Cougars won 11 straight to end the regular season.
But although Houston won games with ease, they failed to cover many spreads. In fact, the Cougs went 1-5 ATS in their final 6 games. Covering spreads could be easier to accomplish in the NCAA Tournament because Houston won’t face massive lines like they did in American Athletic Conference play.
Marquette Golden Eagles
The Big East is strong this season. Xavier, UConn, and Marquette should be no worse than 4 seeds. All three teams could grab 2 to 3 seeds.
Among the teams destined for the Big Dance, Marquette was the hottest down the stretch. The Golden Eagles won 17-of-19. The two losses came versus the Golden Eagle’s top rivals, Xavier and UConn, and both losses happened on the road.
Marquette went 12-6 against the spread in their final 19 contests. When a hoops team can win double what they lose ATS, it’s always a great sign.
Texas Longhorns
At first glance, it doesn’t look like Texas was hot down the stretch. But a closer look reveals the Longhorns will enter the Big 12 Tournament in great shape.
Texas went 2-2 straight up in their final 4 games. The Horns were a better 3-1 ATS in those final four games. Also, Texas beat Kansas, a likely 1-seed, in their final game of the season.
The victory over the Jayhawks came in Lawrence. Beating Kansas on the road should have turned the Longhorns from a lukewarm squad to a hot team.
Gonzaga Bulldogs
Gonzaga didn’t play great basketball early in the season, which is why one of the favorites to win the NCAA Tournament got lost among Kansas, Alabama, and Houston.
In the second half of the regular season, the Zags rolled. Gonzaga went 20-2 SU in their final 22 games. 1 of the wins came against Alabama 100-90. Heading into the NCAA Tournament, the Zags are playing their best basketball of the season.
