Davante Adams (WR)
As the most attractive free agent out there, the Niners would be wise to make a play for Green Bay’s top wideout Davante Adams regardless of the possible cost. San Fran is in desperate need of another receiving threat outside of George Kittle and Deebo Samuel, especially if the team intends to use Samuel in more gadget plays like he did in his phenomenal 2021 campaign.
Recruiting Adams might even open the door for Aaron Rodgers to possibly rejoin the five-time Pro Bowl selection playing for the team that broke their hearts in each of the last four postseason meetings. The price for this dream deal will be extremely steep, though, so having Adams alone as the Niners’ best receiving threat in recent memory will only further speed up the development of likely 2022 season starting quarterback Trey Lance.
Orlando Brown Jr. (OT)
Giving Lance support in the offensive line will also be imperative for San Francisco. Aging left tackle Trent Williams hasn’t been up to par as seen in the postseason and left guard Laken Tomlinson could also be on his way out as a free agent as well.
That being said, Kansas City’s Pro Bowl tackle Orlando Brown Jr. will have plenty of suitors this offseason and the Niners are likely to join that queue. However, there’s a high possibility Kansas City will retain Brown’s services with a contract extension. This leaves other viable options such as Terron Armstead (Saints), Trent Brown (Patriots), and Cam Robinson (Jaguars) as possible prospects that the 49ers should also look into.
J.C. Jackson (CB)
Perhaps the biggest need for the Niners is help in the secondary, and New England cornerback J.C. Jackson is arguably the cream of the defensive backfield crop. The undrafted product out of Maryland had eight picks this season to give him 25 interceptions since entering the league in 2018 (best amongst all CBs during this span).
San Francisco could also take a look at Jackson’s former Pats teammate in Stephon Gilmore, who could be had at a discount after a relatively down season in Carolina. Charvarius Ward (Chiefs) and Rasul Douglas (Packers) are also on the table as two players with Super Bowl-winning experience who can give a much-needed boost in the 49ers’ pass coverage.
