UFC 270 Main Card Preview

Rodolfo Viera vs. Wellington Turman

It makes sense that the 8-1 Viera would offer lower odds than the 17-5 Turman. But Viera lost via submission on Feb. 13 last year. Turman is 7-0 via submissions. Viera must do something he doesn’t often do, win a fight in the stand-up, which gives the underdog a chance. If Turman can keep this off the mat, he can win.

UFC 270 Pick: Wellington Turman

Cody Stamann vs. Said Nurmagomedov

Stamann brings a very good 19-4-1 record to the Octagon. The talented fighter is 6-0 via TKO or KO victories and 2-1 via submission. But although Stamann will fight hard, he’s up against it against Nurmagomedov. The favorite shows a 14-2 record. Said has a 2-inch height advantage and a 6-inch reach advantage. He’s also won 4-of-5 while Stamann has lost 2 straight. The chalk takes this.

UFC 270 Pick: Said Nurmagomedov

Michel Pereira vs. Andre Fialho

Fialho, the dog, brings the better record into this match. Andre has a 14-3 record. Michel Pereira’s record is 26-11. But although Fialho has won his last 4 fights via knockout or technical knockout, Pereira has fought the much better opponents. Pereira is also on a 3-match winning streak and shows a 10-1 TKO/KO and 7-1 submission record. Sometimes it makes no sense to go against the chalk. So we won’t.

UFC 270 Pick: Michel Pereira

Brandon Moreno vs. Deiveson Figueiredo

The rubber match between Moreno and Figueiredo will be entertaining for sure, but we shouldn’t kid ourselves. Brandon showed in the last match that he’s the better fighter. Moreno hasn’t lost since 2018. The Mexican national has the skills to beat his opponents in the stand up or on the mat. In this matchup, Moreno has a 2-inch height and 2-inch reach advantage. Deiveson is a good fighter, but he had to tap out in the third-round. Figueiredo won’t turn the tables on one of the top MMA artists on the planet.

UFC 270 Pick: Brandon Moreno

Francis Ngannou vs. Ciryl Gane

In his last 5 bouts, champion Francis Ngannou has gone to blasting his opponents in the early rounds. Ngannou knocked out Lewis, Velasquez, Blaydes, and Dos Santos in the first round. He took down Stipe Miocic in his last bout, the one that got him the belt, in the second round. Ciryl Gane takes his time, which could put him at a disadvantage. Ngannou outweighs Gane by 16 pounds. The champ also has a 2-inch reach advantage.

If Gane spends too much time trying to score points, Ngannou will walk through is strikes to land powerful blows. Gane is undefeated at 10-0 for a reason. But Ngannou has dominated the best in the division in his last five bouts. The champ retains his belt.

UFC 270 Pick: Francis Ngannou
