UFC 317 Main Card Preview

Payton Talbot vs. Felipe Lima

Both fighters have a single loss on the record. Talbot’s loss occurred in his last match, which is why he’s the slight underdog in this. But although Lima has an edge in experience, Talbot is taller by 4 inches.

If the underdog utilizes his height, he may have a chance to secure the upset win. Lima is more of a striker, which could also give the dog an edge on the mat.

UFC 317 Pick: Payton Talbot

Beneil Dariush vs. Renato Moicano

The odds make Dariush and Moicano one of this Saturday’s most competitive bouts. Money has begun to fly onto Dariush, pushing his odds down to even in some books.

Moicano appears to have an edge since he was on a 4-match winning streak before falling to Islam Makhachev, one of the best MMA fighters in the world, in a title bout. Dariush is on a 2-match losing streak. Both losses happened via KO. It’s tough to look past the fave even though the money has begun to flow to the dog.

UFC 317 Pick: Renato Moicano

Brandon Royval vs. Joshua Van

Van is on a 4-match winning streak. JV’s victories are legit: two in 2024 and a couple in 2025. So the wins have been close to back-to-back in the MMA world, where fighters often take 6 months off between bouts.

Royal has won a couple of split-decision bouts in his last. One of the split-decision victories came against Brandon Moreno, and it came after losing a unanimous decision to Pantoja in a title fight. Royal also has a height edge.

UFC 317 Pick: Brandon Royal

Alexandre Pantoja vs. Kai Kara-France // UFC Flyweight Championship

In the first of two title fights on the UFC 317 card, Alexandre Pantoja offers close to overlay odds to take down Kai Kara-France. France is a decent mixed martial artist, but Pantoja is one of the most consistent champions at UFC.

The title holder is 8-0 via KO/TKO and 11-0 via submission. His five losses came via decision, which makes Pantoja difficult to beat. Whatever Kara-France attempts, the champ will have an answer. Pantoja wins, and since KKF has been knocked out a few times, backing Alexandre to end the fight early makes sense.

UFC 317 Pick: Alexandre Pantoja

Ilia Topuria vs. Charles Oliveira // UFC Lightweight Championship

Oliveira has a 3-inch height and a 5-inch reach advantage, but those advantages won’t help him much versus Topuria. The underdog has been up and down in his last four, losing two and winning two.

For sure, the losses to Makhachev and Tsarukyan were against top competition. On Saturday, though, he faces another top fighter. Topuria is 16-0. He heads into this off-back-to-back KO wins against Volkanovski and living legend Max Holloway. This fight shouldn’t go the complete five rounds.

UFC 317 Pick: Ilia Topuria
