UFC 318 Main Card Preview

Michael Johnson vs. Daniel Zellhuber

Underdog Michael Johnson is in great form. He’s won 3-of-4 and appears destined to give Zellhuber a battle. But Johnson has a big issue that he will struggle to overcome.

Zellhuber boasts a nearly 4-inch reach advantage, along with a height advantage. Johnson will fight okay in this, but Zellhuber, who is taking a step down in class after facing tough Esteban Ribovics, gets it done in the early round stoppage.

UFC 318 Pick: Daniel Zellhuber

Dan Ige vs. Patricio Pitbull

Ige versus Pitbull should be fun. The favorite in this has a 4-inch reach advantage. It may not matter.

Patricio Pitbull lost his return fight to UFC after spending time at Bellator, but the bout was against Yair Rodriguez, one of the top fighters in the division. Before the loss, which came via UD, Pitbull beat Jeremy Kennedy for the Bellator strap. Give Patricio the nod in an upset.

UFC 318 Pick: Patricio Pitbull

Kevin Holland vs. Daniel Rodriguez

The odds suggest Rodriguez has no shot. At first glance, those backing Holland have a great point. The favorite has a 2-inch and an incredible 7-inch reach advantage.

Additionally, Holland has been on a hot streak in recent bouts, winning two straight. Rodriguez, though, is also on a 2-match winning streak. Also, the +340 dog heads into this after a ridiculous and brutal left hook knock-out of Santiago Ponzinibbio. D Rod has momentum.

UFC 318 Pick: Daniel Rodriguez

Paulo Costa vs. Roman Kopylov

Costa has lost 4-of-5 and two straight. Kopylov has won 4-of-5. Neither fighter appears to have a great ground game.

Costa is 1-0 via submission, and Kopylov is 0-2. Both will throw. The dog is 11-1 via TKO/KO. Kopylov is 12-0 via TKO/KO. The fave has more power and is in much better form. So give Roman the nod.

UFC 318 Pick: Roman Kopylov

Max Holloway vs. Dustin Poirier // BMF Title

This should be a great main event. Both will fight their hearts out. Both will throw, and both will try to get an edge on the mat.

The key will be how Poirier handles Max’s strikes. That shouldn’t be an issue, given that it took Israel Makhachev, the champion in this division, five rounds to submit the dog. Dustin Poirier has a big chance if he can utilize his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu versus Holloway’s D. A submission flyer prop on Poirier is a decent play.

UFC 318 Pick: Dustin Poirier
