Why Bet on the UNLV Rebels

The gauntlet of Top 25 opponents has the UNLV Rebels reeling at the worst time. Last Saturday, the boys from Paradise, Nevada had far from a utopian afternoon against the No. 14 Iowa State Cyclones, who handed them their worst loss of the season, 48-3. This was after a 37-10 drubbing by Arizona State in Week 2 and a crushing two-point overtime defeat to Eastern Washington in the season opener.

The Rebels have been held to under 160 total yards on offense in each of their past two games against ranked opponents. They’ve given playing time to four different quarterbacks during this two-game span, and none of them have shown potential for success yet.

Time will tell whether or not head coach Marcus Arroyo will start sophomore Doug Brumfield, who scored two rushing TDs for the only end-zone looks by any UNLV QB this season, in Week 4 after neither Cameron rookie Friel nor Tate Martell looked good against the Cyclones. Unfortunately, going up against a streaking Fresno State program could possibly spell another blowout for the struggling school from Sin City.

Why Bet on the Fresno State Bulldogs?

Thanks to the thrilling 40-37 road upset of the UCLA Bruins, the Fresno State Bulldogs find themselves back in the AP Top 25 as the 22nd-best team in the nation. This is the first time that Fresno State has been ranked by the Associated Press since 2018, all in large part to the spectacular play from Jake Haener.

Bothered by a bum hip after a hard hit during the game, Haener willed the Bulldogs to victory with a game-winning touchdown pass to Jalen Cropper with less than 15 seconds left in the contest at the Rose Bowl. The graduating quarterback completed 38 of his 53 passes against UCLA, finishing with 455 passing yards and a pair of TDs.

Stud running back Ronnie Rivers also torched the Bruins’ defense to the tune of 21 carries for 136 rushing yards and two trips to the end zone. The Bulldogs’ potent firepower both in the air and on the ground is one huge test that UNLV’s leaky defense must find a way to contain; let alone conquer.

UNLV vs. Fresno State Betting Trends

  • The Rebels are on a nine-game losing streak (2-6-1 ATS) and have not won a game since their final game of the 2019 season.
  • The Rebels are 1-6 in their last seven games as double-digit road underdogs, but went 4-3 against the spread in those contests.
  • The totals have gone under in four of UNLV’s last six games in general.
  • The Bulldogs are 5-4 at home over the last two seasons (4-4-1 ATS).
  • The Bulldogs have won three straight and are 5-3 against UNLV since 2013 (4-4 ATS).
  • The totals have gone down the middle in those eight meetings between the Bulldogs and Rebels, with the last two games taking the over.

UNLV vs. Fresno State Expert Betting Predictions

In terms of covering the spread, the Bulldogs are well within pace to cover the massive spread given how underwhelming the Rebels have been against the cream of the FBS crop these past couple of weeks. And while UNLV has never been 30-point underdogs against Fresno State, the Rebels did suffer a 45-point beatdown at the hands of the Bulldogs back in 2018, proving that a massive blowout could be at hand for the Rebels again on Friday.
