Why Bet on the Minnesota Vikings?

For the third time this season, the Minnesota Vikings forced a game in overtime during their Week 9 battle against the Baltimore Ravens. Unfortunately, Minnesota fell to Baltimore’s game-winning field goal in overtime, 34-31, for their second loss in a row and their fifth defeat overall.

Kirk Cousins had a decent day throwing the ball, going 17-of-28 for 187 passing yards and three touchdowns (one on the ground) without an interception. Cousin’s low yardage total through the air was made up by Dalvin Cook’s huge effort from the backfield, as Cook ran for 110 rushing yards on 17 carries. Top wideout Justin Jefferson also had a nice outing with his 69 receiving yards and a trip to the end zone for his fourth TD catch of the season.

Unfortunately, the Vikings’ once-vaunted defense has yet to be found. The Vikes gave up a whopping 500 yards of offense to the Ravens, with Baltimore even going 3-of-3 on fourth down conversions. They’ve held each of their last three opponents to 17 points or less apiece, though, and they’ll need to contain a Chargers team that has had huge bursts of offense for the majority of their outings this season.

Why Bet on the Los Angeles Chargers?

For the second straight week, the Los Angeles Chargers had a game result in a 27-24 final score. But in Week 9’s contest against the Philadelphia Eagles, the Chargers were on the winning end of such an affair for a change.

Los Angeles, now at 5-3 and tied with the Raiders for the AFC West lead, snapped its two-game losing streak at an opportune moment as second-year QB Justin Herbert is starting to show signs of a sophomore slump. Herbert recaptured the magic from his rookie season against the Eagles, going 32-of-38 for 356 passing yards and a couple of TD passes. He got right back to business with his favorite target in Keenan Allen, who set new season-highs in targets (13) and catches (12) to go with his 104 receiving yards.

What’s still a concern is that the Chargers’ defense is still questionable at best. Their stop unit has given up an average of 31.8 points over their last four games and will face a rather formidable offense from Minnesota ahead. In turn, the best course of action for the Bolts would likely be to outscore the Vikes on their home turf instead.

Vikings vs. Chargers Betting Trends

  • The Vikings are 2-5 in the last seven road games (3-4 ATS).
  • The Vikes have lost three consecutive games against teams from the AFC (1-2 ATS).
  • The totals went over in each of Minnesota’s last six games on the road.
  • The Chargers are 5-3 over the last eight home games (4-4 ATS).
  • The Bolts are 6-2 in the last eight games as favorites (SU/ATS).
  • The totals went under in each of Denver’s last three outings.

Vikings vs. Chargers Expert Betting Predictions

Both Minnesota and Los Angeles have potent offenses that could easily make Sunday’s contest a high-scoring affair. Guessing the winning team in this matchup is a different matter, though, even if the Chargers have the slight edge record-wise at home of late and the regular season as a whole.
