Why the Warriors Will Beat the Celtics in the 2022 NBA Finals

By Carlos Chacon

The Golden State Warriors earned a ticket to the 2022 NBA Finals following a strong showing in the Western Conference Finals. They made light work of the Mavericks and closed the series early four games to one, giving them more time to rest before the final stage of the playoffs. Golden State joins the Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers, and Chicago Bulls, as the only franchises to make six NBA Finals in an eight-year stretch.

Golden State’s 2022 playoff campaign started strong with a 4-1 first-round series win over the Denver Nuggets. A more challenging Western Conference Semifinals matchup with the Grizzlies, in which the Dubs closed 4-2. Overall, the Warriors have a 12-4 postseason record in this year’s NBA playoffs.

The last series of the season gets underway on Thursday, June 2, at Chase Center. Nitrobetting shares three reasons the Warriors will beat the Celtics in the 2022 NBA Finals.

A lineup to recognize

The 2019-20 season was something to forget for the franchise. They hit rock bottom and were at the bottom of the league with only 15 names. The following season presented challenging moments, and Golden State was knocked out of the Play-In Tournament. Now, the team fires on all cylinders as Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and Andre Iguodala make their way back to the Finals for the sixth time. Furthermore, the Dubs are back with an even better core team.

What makes Steve Kerr’s system interesting is the fact that he already covered the gaps. The ‘Splash Brothers’ and Green don’t have to register ridiculous playing time to keep the engine running hot. Golden State produced quality players out of Jordan Poole, Kevon Looney, and Jonathan Kuminga. We witnessed Andrew Wiggins transform into a different animal with the team. The roster also features reliable pieces like Otto Porter Jr. and Gary Payton II.

We’ve seen this lineup yield positive results in the playoffs. Once Gary Payton and Otto Porter Jr. get lifted off the injury report, we expect the Celtics to be on their toes the entire series. There’s very little room for error when playing a team of this caliber.

The Splash Brothers are all fired up

Klay Thompson needed to dedicate a few years of his career to recovery. But, his hard work paid off and is now better than ever. We were taken back to 2018 all over again when the other half of the ‘Splash Brothers’ scored 32 points to help secure the Conference Finals trophy. He hit eight shots from deep in the closeout game and was one of the best nights of his season, all things considered.

On the other hand, it looks like there’s no sign of slowing down for Steph Curry. This might not be his finest season if we look at the numbers alone. However, he’s been efficient and consistent throughout the playoffs. He did win a pair of MVP awards and three titles in the past, but returning to the top of the mountain after tumbling down makes everything sweeter.

Both players played key roles in this playoff stretch. Curry led the team in scoring, while Thompson played a solid scoring option on nights where Steph needed more assistance. Ultimately, we still see the same motivation and hunger in the pair, putting the Warriors in an advantageous position against the Celtics.

Andrew Wiggins’ two-way play

The Warriors made an incredible defender out of Andrew Wiggins. He filled the defensive void left by Andre Iguodala during the West finals and the entire playoffs. Iggy needs to recover from injury and will likely get little playing time in the finals. But thanks to Wiggins, the Warriors have more weapons in their already impressive arsenal of players.

Wiggins and Iguodala have multiple similarities. But, Wiggins was never known as a reliable defender during his early years in the league. This season snapped the stigma as he helped the Warriors become one of the best defensive teams in the league. Wiggins also packs an offensive punch and is arguably better than Iguodala’s peak years, producing more aggressive attempts and clear opportunities off the dribble. He will play a key role in defending Jayson Tatum in this matchup.
