Alabama vs. LSU, 2014

Blake Sims stole the spotlight this year as starting quarterback. He abruptly grew to superstar status after his performance against Louisiana State University. Sims led his team to an incredible victory which started with a pass to Amari Cooper for the Tide’s first points of the game and a crucial 9-play drive in the final quarter, which forced the contest to overtime. With the score level at 13, Sims then found DeAndrew White in the corner of the end zone for the score. Alabama’s defense would hold back the Tigers on their efforts to take the lead, finishing the game with a 20-13 scoreline. Sims would then lead Alabama to a Southeastern Conference Championship and a ticket to their first College Football Playoff.

Alabama vs. Georgia, 2008

Dubbed as the “Blackout Game”, the Crimson Tide produced another memorable game when they took on a Georgia team that tried to intimidate them from the get-go. Their opponents welcomed them with black uniforms, however, Saban and company did not cave in. John Parker Wilson took charge and pulled off a flawless performance, while the Tide’s defense put Knowshon Moreno at running back and pressed to get an interception off Matthew Stafford. Despite being ranked third overall, Georgia struggled early in the game. Alabama dominated the first half with a 31-0 lead and eventually went on to win the game by the score of 41-30.

Alabama vs. Florida, 2008

This one might not be the most action-packed, but exciting in terms of the score. Looking back at Nick Saban’s history, the team suffered a heartbreaker to the Florida Gators in the SEC Championship, and would later go on to drop the Sugar Bowl game against Utah. Questions were raised as to if Saban can recover from the rut and get back on track. But in 2009, he proved the naysayers wrong. They faced a tough Gators team with Tim Tebow leading the charge. After a tight first half, the Crimson Tide came out in the second half poised to win the game, shutting out Florida’s options for the last two quarters of the championship game. Eventually, Mark Ingram won Alabama’s first Heisman Trophy in the history of the program after an incredible showing. The Tide’s later went on to defeat Texas in the National Championship Game.

Alabama vs. Tennessee, 2009

This game put the name of Terrence “Mount” Cody into Alabama history books. The undefeated TIde hosted the unranked Volunteers in what was anticipated to be an easy win for the team. However, it turned out to be the opposite of that. The Vols missed two field goals, and Cody blocked two more to protect a two-point lead and an undefeated national championship. Although it was a scrappy win and one that Saban would want to forget about, it is one of the most memorable games to date.

Alabama vs. LSU, 2011

The Tide’s document a long list of memorable moments with LSU, including the aforementioned, but this two-game contest ranks high up our books. The first game took place in Tuscaloosa and was coined “The Game of the Century”. It was defensive mayhem coming from both ends where two of the best defenses in the nation closed down every window of opportunity. Unfortunately, the Crimson Tide lost the first game to Les Miles’ unit, 9-6. Nevertheless, Nick Saban would eventually bounce back in their second meeting and overrun LSU in a 21-0 victory. The Tigers barely made it to the 50-yard line, until the second half, and Saban won his second national title against one of Alabama’s biggest rivals.
