Baltimore’s Justin Tucker kicks game-winning 66-yard field goal
Detroit had Baltimore where they wanted them. The Ravens had to convert a fourth and 19 from their 16-yards line. The worst part? There was around 25 seconds on the clock, which meant if they were lucky enough to convert, Jackson would have one play to get Baltimore kicker Justin Tucker into position for a game winning kick.
Amazingly, not only did Lamar Jackson throw a perfect pass, but Tucker was good on a 66-yard field goal, that broke Matt Prater’s 64-yard field goal record. The Ravens’ got some luck from the football gods. The kick hit the bar and then won’t over. The victory sent the Ravens to 2-1. The Lions fell to 0-3.
Saints fall to Panthers
In NFL Week 1, the New Orleans Saints dominated the Green Bay Packers. Most expected the Saints to follow up the victory over the Packers with another fantastic performance against Carolina. But that’s not what happened. Carolina turned out to provide the dominating performance, punching the Saints in the mouth with a stunning 26-7 win. Quarterback Sam Darnold torched New Orleans when throwing for 305 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Christian McCaffrey rushed for 72 yards and a TD. Christian also caught 5 passes for 65 yards. In hindsight, NFL handicappers should have pummeled the Panthers ATS or on the moneyline. The Saints were not only missing 7 coaches, but they were also missing 5 starters from the Green Bay game.
Kansas City falls to 1—2 after Herbert leads Bolts to upset victory.
In week 3, the Chiefs’ were supposed to bounce back with a win over the Los Angeles Chargers. The Sunday before, Lamar Jackson had led the Ravens to a fantastic 36-35 victory over Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs.
Most everyone felt KC would throttle the Chargers. But the Bolts, who entered the game after a tough last-second field goal loss to the Cowboys in week 2, had other ideas. Justin Herbert outplayed Mahomes with 283 yards, 4 TD passes, and no picks and the Chargers upset KC in Arrowhead 30-24.Mahomes threw 2 picks, which is unlike him.
Coach Andy Reid had to to go the hospital after the game. Reid is okay. Most believe that Reid’s incident, and the fact Kansas City has now lost two straight, means they’re a lock to cover against the Philadelphia Eagles.
After Philly bombed on Monday night versus the Cowboys, it’s difficult to go against those who love the Chiefs. But before landing on KC, realize the defense ranks 30 th in total yards allowed and 31 st in rushing yards allowed. If the Eagles’ offensive line gets healthy, they can run it all day versus KC’s porous defense.
Matthew Stafford and the Rams dominate Tom Brady and the Bucs
The most important game in week 3 had Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams hosting Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. So much money landed on the Bucs that they ended up a -1.5 road favorite.
The Rams, though, dominated. Although Stafford and LAR won by just 10 points, 34-24, at no point did it look like Brady was going to rally the Bucs. The big takeaway, besides the Rams beating the defending Super Bowl Champions, is how Stafford threw for 343 yards and 4 TDs. The Rams’ QB1 carved up the Bucs’ secondary.
Also, Tampa’s top rusher was Tom Brady. The Buccaneers rank 31 st in rushing yards per game. Even though they should beat Brady’s former team, the New England Patriots in NFL Week 4, we should dig deeper. If Tampa can’t rush the ball, Bill Belichick will devise a defensive game plan to mess up Terrific Tom’s rhythm.
Also, Patriot QB Mac Jones threw for 270 yards and a TD versus the Saints excellent defense. If Jones hadn’t thrown 3 picks, including a pick six, New England may have been in a position to win the game on Sunday. So if Jones plays better, the Patriots could be tough to beat.
Dak and Boys roll over Jalen and the Eagles, Rodgers and Packers upset 49ers
On Monday night, Dak Prescott threw 3 TDs to lead the Dallas Cowboys to a 41-21 win over the rival Philadelphia Eagles. Eagles’ QB Jalen Hurts played okay. He threw for 326 yards and a couple of TDs. Jalen also tossed 2 INTs. Left tackle Jordan Mailata didn’t play, which could be a big reason why Hurts struggled.
On NFL Sunday Night Football, Aaron Rodgers led Green Bay down the field for a game- winning drive against the San Francisco 49ers. Rodgers and the Pack ran 5 plays, 6 counting the field goal, in 37 seconds, which tells us even though this may be AR’s final season with the Cheeseheads, he’s as good as ever. San Francisco lost its first game. The Green Bay Packers ran their record to 2-1.
