2021-22 NBA Season: The 3 Most Profitable ATS Teams in the NBA Before the All-Star Break

By Carlos Chacon

The first half of the 2021-22 NBA season is in the books, and it’s quite a different picture compared to last year’s campaign. The same could also be said over in the betting scene, as the three best teams against the spread to date are probably not the ones most people would expect being ATS standouts.

Nitrobetting is ready to dish out some timely assists to our bettors all throughout the 2021-22 NBA season. This time, let’s find out which teams had the best record against the spread heading into the 2022 NBA All-Star Weekend, as well as their respective futures 2022 NBA odds to win the NBA title to date.

The 3 Best ATS Teams in the NBA Before the 2022 All-Star Break

Memphis Grizzlies

  • Odds to win 2021-22 NBA title: +2,500

The third year of the Ja Morant era in Memphis could not be going any better, as the Grizzlies are currently ranked as the third-best team in the league at 41-19 entering the All-Star break. Not only that, but their 40-20-0 record against the spread speaks volumes of their progress considering that they’re the only team to cover the spread over 65 percent or exactly two-thirds of the time this season.

However, Memphis is still considered the third wheel in the top-heavy Western Conference that’s being dominated by the Phoenix Suns and the Golden State Warriors. The Suns (+8.1) and the Warriors (+6.9) are the only other teams with a better average margin of victory than the Grizz (4.9); albeit with Golden State and Phoenix ranking sixth and seventh, respectively, in terms of ATS records this season.

Oklahoma City Thunder

  • Odds to win 2021-22 NBA title: +50,000

Even the NBA’s bottom-dwellers can be ATS studs. Case and point: the Oklahoma City Thunder, whose 18 wins in 58 games is the third-worst mark in the league but their 35-19-4 record against the spread (64.8% win percentage) actually ranks second amongst their peers.

OKC may be a longshot to win the NBA title this season, let alone make the playoffs, but at least the team is giving bettors a good out to side with an underdog doing well on the ATS front. The Thunder’s negative average margin of victory (-6.6) is still a concern, though, especially since they’ve been covering the spread by a mere average of 0.9 points per game.

Cleveland Cavaliers

  • Odds to win 2021-22 NBA title: +4,500

The best ATS team entering Christmas day still ranks highly entering the 2022 NBA All-Star Weekend, as the Cleveland Cavaliers have a 34-21-3 record against the spread to date (61.8% win percentage). Cleveland is the biggest surprise out of the East by far and their opponents seem to be underestimating this young bunch with a couple of young All-Stars in Jarrett Allen and Darius Garland.

Due to these underestimations, the Cavs are often found as an underdog in their matchups against proven teams of seasons past. In turn, they’ve shocked them time and again to garner the best average number of points that they win or lose against the spread by +4.7. The only other team to have a more convincing ATS win or loss is the aforementioned Memphis at +3.1.
