AAC Prediction

Top Pick

The Houston Cougars are loaded. Jamal Shead, Reggie Chaney, Tramon Mark, and Marcus Sasser, the preseason AAC Player of the Year, return. Kelvin Sampson recruited potential stars Jarace Walker and Terrance Arcenaux. The only thing that could derail the Cougs from dominating the AAC are injuries.

Top Underdog

In the past, you had to go through the Cincinnati Bearcats to win the American Athletic Conference. The Bearcats aren’t as talented as Houston. But if the Cougars suffer injuries to key players, Cincinnati could be the team that picks it up. David DeJulius is one of the better players in the league and coach Wes Miller will send a decent defense to the floor.

ACC Prediction

Top Pick

The North Carolina Tar Heels return 4 starters from the National Championship runner-up team from last season. The biggest returning starter, no doubt, is Armando Bacot. Bacot played hurt in the loss to Kansas. If Armando was one-hundred percent, the Heels would have cut down the nets.

Top Underdog

Coach Jim Larranga took the Canes to the Elite Eight. The Miami Hurricanes is a different team this season. The Hurricanes must compete agianst blue bloods UNC and Duke without two of their top three scorers. But Isaiah Wong returns and Larranga transferred underrated player Nijel Pack from Kansas State.

Big East Prediction

Top Pick

The Creighton Blue Jays have Final Four, heck, National Championship talent. Doug McDermott’s squad is as deep as it gets. The Blue Jays head coach managed to convince Summit League star player Baylor Scheierman to transfer to Creighton. Ryan Nembhard, Trey Alexander, and Alex Kaluma return. Center Ryan Kalkbrenner is the preseason Big East Player of the Year. The Jays are for real.

Top Underdog

Former Arizona coach Sean Miller returns to the team that started his coaching career. Miller, once again, is the HC at Xavier. Miller is a terrific basketball coach. Not only that, but with Colby Jones, Zach Freemantle, Jack Nunge, and Adam Kunkel returning, Xavier will start winning games right away.

Big 12 Prediction

Top Pick

Kansas will be a good team. But the Jayhawks will gel later in the season. The Baylor Bears will be a top ten team in November and all the way to march. Scott Drew’s offense will revolve around guards Adam Flagler and Keyonte George. Both have player of the year talent.

Top Underdog

TCU pushed top seeded Arizona to overtime in the NCAA Tournament. Point guard Mike Miles is one of the best guards in the nation. A step forward will put the Horned Frogs into Baylor and Kansas territory, which means TCU for sure can win the Big 12.

Big Ten Prediction

Top Pick

One of the reasons the Big Ten is so lousy in the tournament is because all the quality teams beat each other up during the regular season. 2022-2023 will be no different. The Illinois Fighting Illini gets the nod to outplay Michigan, Ohio State, Maryland, Wisconsin, and everyone else for the conference title because Coleman Hawkins returns and the Illini convinced Baylor forward Matthew Mayer to transfer to Champaign.

Top Underdog

The Iowa Hawkeyes don’t have a star. What they are is deep. 7-of-10 players who threw down for double-digit minutes in the Big Ten title game last season return. So does Kris Bradley, Keegan’s twin. If Kris takes the next step, he’ll be the star player Iowa needs to win the conference.

Pac-12 Prediction

Top Pick

Almost everyone loves UCLA, but Arizona won the conference in Tommy Lloyd’s first season as head coach. Lloyd lost a lot of talent from last year’s NCAA Tournament 1-seed squad. But power forward / center Azuolas Tubelis returns. So does Kerr Krissa and sixth man of the year Pelle Larsson. Also, Lloyd transferred excellent three-point shooter Courtney Ramey from Texas.

Top Underdog

Joshua Morgan, Boogie Ellis, and Drew Peterson will do enough to keep the Trojans in the discussion. If recruits Tre White and Kijani Wright contribute enough, USC will challenge Zona and UCLA for the conference title.

SEC Prediction

Top Pick

Reigning National Player of the Year Oscar Tshiebwe returns in an attempt to help the Kentucky Wildcats win the National Championship. Why did Tshiebwe return? He can make more money at the collegiate level than he can as a rookie in the NBA. Tshiebwe doesn’t fit the power forward NBA mold. He’ll dominate college opponents again this season, like he did last season. Calipari’s crew is the SEC’s best.

Top Underdog

Jabari Smith bolted to the NBA, but that doesn’t mean Bruce Pearl’s team has no shot at the SEC title. Auburn returns 4 of their top 6 scorers from last season’s squad. Five-star recruit Yohan Traore and Johni Broome, a Morehead State transfer, will help Auburn compete.
