A couple of weeks ago at the 2022 Breeders’ Cup, a four-year-old colt rode off into the sunset and won for the sixth time in as many races in its career. That colt is Flightline, who missed out on the Triple Crown series but conjured up quite the storm in other races en route to a perfect run for the ages.
Flightline is trained by John W. Sadler, who won his second-career Breeders’ Cup title and his first since 2018 with Accelerate. The son of Tapit flew under the radar of casual horse racing fans and only got a taste of the national spotlight on November 5 during its highly-anticipated start at the Breeders’ Cup.
Flightline entered Keeneland as a heavy favorite to win the race and capped off its short and illustrious career with yet another win. The generational colt has now been retired and will be in the conversation for one of the greatest racehorses in history considering that Flightline won the in Lexington by 8¼ lengths and its five prior races by a combined 62½ lengths. It’s quite a pity that not every horse racing fan was able to witness a legend in the making.
