2022 DuraMAX Drydene 400 Sleeper Picks

By Carlos Chacon

Talladega featured edge-of-your-seat action. Ross Chastain wrestled for over 180 laps before attacking and taking the checkered flag at the GEICO 500. Chastain scored his second victory of the calendar, joining William Byron as the only other driver to secure two races this season.

NASCAR heads to Dover, Delaware to commence the 11th race of the 2022 calendar. Drivers line up to race at the Dover Motor Speedway on Sunday, May 1, 3:00 PM ET. The track is known as the Monster Mile, with the nickname dating back to the 1970s. It’s one of the more esteemed tracks in the sport and has been part of the sport since it opened in 1969.

Qualifying and practice sessions take place on Sunday. The 36 drivers are split into two groups for qualifying, with the top five drivers from each group advancing into Round two of qualifying to fight for the pole position. As the rest of the field attempt to catch up to the race leaders and the favorites, Nitrobetting shines a light on the event’s sleeper picks.

Top Sleeper Picks for the 2022 DuraMAX Drydene 400

Daniel Suarez

  • 2022 DuraMAX Drydene 400 Odds: +3900

Trackhouse put down the hammer this season and displayed massive improvement in 2022. Suarez finished ninth for the team in Dover Motor Speedway last season. With two victories for his teammate so far, the event offers Suarez a shot at a win and points. He finished within the top 11 in nine starts on the Monster Mile in Cup competition.

Additionally, Suarez has five Top ten finishes in six Xfinity starts, including a win in 2016. He also finished second in two Truck Series starts. The 30-year-old driver shines at Dover Speedway. In his career, the Mexican scored 13 Top 11 finishes, featuring five finishes within the Top three.

His recent achievements tell us that he has the driving force to make it to the podium and is a great sleeper pick for this weekend’s race.

Austin Cindric

  • 2022 DuraMAX Drydene 400 Odds: +6000

The lineup features a handful of longshot picks. With most of the preferred seasoned drivers making their way to the top of the list, getting the core to the young talent lineup is a good move. Cindric’s Cup Series season took off on a high as he scored a home win at the Daytona 500. However, his season endured a decline with only one finish within the Top ten.

It’s challenging to predict how Austin Cindric performs in Delaware seeing as this is his debut race in Delaware. Nonetheless, he boasts a decorated Xfinity record enough to keep the leaders on their toes. The former series champion grabbed a Top ten finish in seven starts. The 2021 season was also good for him as he stretched his stream of top-three finishes to four races with a victory.

Cole Custer

  • 2022 DuraMAX Drydene 400 Odds: +10000

Stewart-Haas has a capable driver in their lineup. While Custer is not having the best season, it doesn’t keep him away from the sleeper picks. He produced positive numbers at Dover Motor Speedway in his three career appearances. Custer managed a tenth place finish in his last two races at the track while scoring an 11th place finish on his Drydene debut in 2020.

A duo of Top ten finishes as a rookie, a tenth place run last season, and a victory in the Xfinity Series hardens his position as a sleeper pick. Moreover, the 24-year-old driver earned five Top-eight finishes in six NXS appearances on the Monster Mile to match a fifth-place finish in trucks in 2016.
