  • Does Jon Rahm offer overlay or underlay odds?

Rahm shot a -8 at last year’s Farmers Insurance Open. Although the favorite in this year’s tournament finished 5 strokes off winner Patrick Reed, he was just a single stroke from sharing second-place.

The tournament favorite is hitting the ball well. He finished second at the Sentry Tournament of Champions and fourteenth at the American Express. But although he’s playing well, +750 odds are too low. Winning a golf tournament is tough. So we should look elsewhere for the victor.

Which player among Thomas, Schauffele, Matsuyama, Johnson and DeChambeau deserves the longest look to win the 2022 Farmers Insurance Open?

Johnson and DeChambeau aren’t playing well enough. This is DJ’s first tournament played since The CJ Cup back in October. Johnson finished forty-fifth in The CJ Cup. DeChambeau finished twenty-fifth at the Sentry Tournament of Champions. The Sentry took place during the first week of January. Matsuyama won the Sony Open in Hawaii. So he’s definitely worth a look to take this. Hideki, though, shot a +1 at the 2021 Farmers Insurance Open. He can win but he’s a long shot to do so. Justin Thomas is sitting on a victory. The second choice finished third at the World Wide Technology Championship, fifth at the Hero World Challenge, and fifth at the Sentry Tournament of Champions. If not for a 74 first round at the Sentry, JT may have won the tournament. He’s worth backing for sure. So is Xander Schauffele. Schauffele shot a -9 to tie him for second-place at last year’s Farmers Insurance. He’s in good enough form, a twelfth at the Hero World and a twelfth at the Sentry, to warrant a look.

Which player from +2000 to +2800 odds can win the trophy?

At +2800 odds, Tony Finau is an overlay. Although Finau isn’t in great form, he finished fortieth at the American Express, he can easily turn his form around at Torrey Pines. Finau shot a 69-67-74-69 in this tournament last year. His -9 placed him tied for second. Like Thomas in the Sentry, if not for a 74 third round, Finau may have won the 2021 Farmers Insurance Open. So Tony’s worth a look. Also, the odds are more than generous.

Name the two best longshots at odds of +3000 to +5000 with the best chances to win the Farmers Insurance Open?

We should take the defending champion seriously. Not only did Patrick Reed win this by 5 strokes last year, but the last time he played poorly, a sixty-first at the Houston Open, he followed it up with a nice third-place finish at the Hero World Challenge.

The fifty-fifth at the American Express shouldn’t talk you off Reed to win a seconds straight Farmers Insurance trophy. The other player to consider backing is Brooks Koepka. Koepka’s Sentry finish, twenty-eighth, wasn’t horrible. Also, he finished ninth at the Hero World. Both tournaments happened after Brooks missed the cut at the Houston Open and the World Wide Technology, which means his form has improved. If it’s improved enough, Koepka can win the Farmers Insurance Open.
