2022 March Madness Key Numbers and Betting Predictions
Gonzaga is among the frontrunners to take the No. 1 seed in the NCAA men’s basketball national tournament after securing the West Coast Conference championship for the third time in a row. The Bulldogs, who topped the rankings in the regular season, enter the postseason as favorites to win the championship. They were also favored to win last season’s title but had trouble dealing with Baylor.
This time around, head coach Mark Few and his boys have a few more tricks up their sleeves. The side records impressive numbers on offense and defense that unnerve the best teams in the league. That being said, NitroBetting highlights why Gonzaga is set to take the 2022 NCAA men’s basketball title.

Key Numbers
1-seeds are 23-13 in National Championship games
This is the most important number to recognize. Whenever filling out a bracket or thinking of the team to back to win the title, consider that few teams outside of 1 seeds have actually cut down the nets. In fact, a 1-seed has won the NCAA Men’s College Basketball Championship in four straight seasons. Not only that, but 1-seeds fair better in Final Four matchups than either 2-seeds or 3- seeds.
2-seeds are 13-17 in the Final Four
2-seeds don’t fair as well because although a 2-seed has a big chance to make the Elite Eight, they often face a 1-seed to make the Final Four. Then if the 2-seed gets to the Final Four, they, yep, often face a 1-seed to make it to the Monday night title match. Another key number is that 2-seeds are more prone to first-round or second- round losses than 1-seeds. Keep that in mind before betting on 2-seeds to cover spreads.
3-seeds are 11-6 in the Final Four
3-seeds don’t make it to the Final Four as often as 2-seeds, but their record once they do get to the Final Four the win percentages for 3-seeds is higher than it is for 2-seeds. Teams that are 3-seeds have flown under the radar during most of the season. In 2019, Texas Tech made it to the championship game as a 3-seed.
Betting Predictions
No Big Ten team will make it to the Sweet 16
Purdue, Ohio State, Illinois, Michigan State, Iowa and Wisconsin are decent teams. But those squads, and the rest of the teams in the Big Ten, spent all season beating each other up and now must play in a conference tournament, which means by next week every Big Ten squad will be gassed.
Three 1-seeds will make the Final Four
Arizona, Gonzaga, and Baylor will secure 3-of-4 top seeds. All three will make the Final Four. The Zags, Zona, and the Bears play great defense and have excellent offenses. Don’t expect anyone to upset those three power teams./p>
Kentucky will make the Final Four
The Wildcats are likely to end up in the same bracket as the Kansas Jayhawks. The Selection Committee tends to keep teams like Kentucky, a borderline 1-seed, from facing off against one of the top three teams in the nation. So if Gonzaga, Zona, and Baylor are the top overall three seeds and Rock Chalk is the fourth, Big Blue will end up in the same bracket as Kansas. Kentucky is a better overall team than the Jayhawks. Kansas is good, but they rely almost exclusively on Ochai Agbaji.
Arizona will beat Kentucky and win the National Championship
Arizona and Kentucky are two of the most balanced teams in the nation. Both have strong guard play, Benedict Mathurin for Zona and Sahvir Wheeler for Kentucky. Both send terrific big men to the floor, Christian Koloko and Oumar Ballo have dominated for U-of-A. Kentucky’s Oscar Tshiebwe should win player of the year. The difference is that Arizona is the deeper squad and Mathurin can take over the game. So Zona will beat Big Blue in the title contest./p>
