2022 March Madness Unranked Teams to Watch Out

By Hank Blaine

Gonzaga is among the frontrunners to take the No. 1 seed in the NCAA men’s basketball national tournament after securing the West Coast Conference championship for the third time in a row. The Bulldogs, who topped the rankings in the regular season, enter the postseason as favorites to win the championship. They were also favored to win last season’s title but had trouble dealing with Baylor.

This time around, head coach Mark Few and his boys have a few more tricks up their sleeves. The side records impressive numbers on offense and defense that unnerve the best teams in the league. That being said, NitroBetting highlights why Gonzaga is set to take the 2022 NCAA men’s basketball title.

TCU Horned Frogs

On March 10, the Horned Frogs upset Texas in the first-round of the Big Ten Tournament. The victory shouldn’t have surprised us because TCU beat Kansas when the Jayhawks ranked 6th, and Texas Tech when the Red Raiders ranked 9th . Texas Christian is a solid bunch. The team relies on a stifling defense. TCU went 17-10-3 against the spread this season. So they have a winning record ATS.

St. Mary’s Gaels

St. Mary’s allows 59.4 points per game, which is ridiculously low. Not only that, but the Gaels beat Gonzaga this season and pushed the Zags in the West Coast Conference Tournament title game. The second best team in the WCC went a blistering 19-9-1 ATS this season. The Gaels have the size with 6’ 10 forward Matthias Tass and guard play with Tommy Kuhse to go on a deep NCAA Tournament run. St. Mary’s should have no trouble covering spreads and beating teams until at least the Sweet 16.

Iowa State Cyclones

Like TCU, Iowa State is an underrated Big 12 squad. The Cyclones finished the season with a good enough record to grab an NCAA Tournament bid. Iowa State leans on one of the best guards in the country, Izaiah Brockton. The 6’ 4” guard averages 17.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. The Cyclones fell apart in the middle of the season. But they picked it up, at least against the spread, towards the end of the regular season, going 4-2 ATS in their final 6 games.

Memphis Tigers

Even if the Tigers lose their conference tournament to Houston or SMU, they’ll enter the NCAA Tournament one of the hottest teams in the nation. Memphis started the season a Top 10 team. They failed to impress in the first half. But in the second half, the Tigers rolled. Memphis finished the season winning 9-of-10 and going 8-2 against the spread. The Tigers have what it takes to make the Final Four. 6’ 7” guard Landers Nolley II can take over a game while center Jalen Duren can hang with the best bigs in the country. For sure, Memphis can become a betting darling.
