AL East – Yankees Roll into the Postseason. Jays, Rays, and surprising Baltimore also secure spots
As of August 8, the Yankees have a 10.5 games lead over the second-place Toronto Blue Jays. There’s no way Toronto, or any other team in the AL East, catches the Yankees. Give New York the AL East title.
But although Toronto, the Tampa Bay Rays, and, yes, the Baltimore Orioles won’t beat the Yankees for the AL East Division, all three can make the expanded MLB postseason. The Blue Jays have a 2 games lead over the Rays for the top wildcard.
Baltimore is a game behind Seattle for the third wildcard. The prediction here is that the AL East sends four teams: the Yankees, Jays, Rays, and Orioles to the MLB playoffs.
AL Central – Cleveland overtakes Minnesota for the division title
Minnesota has a 1-game lead over the Cleveland Guardians in the AL Central Division. The prediction for the Central is that Cleveland overtakes the Twins and wins the division. The Guardians rank first in strikeouts per game. Cleveland averages 7.03 Ks each contest. The Guardians’ team batting average ranks eighth in MLB. Cleveland wins the AL Central.
AL West – Astros leapfrog the Yankees for the AL’s best record
The Stros are just a single game behind the Yankees for the American League’s best record. Both teams should continue to win games. But at the end of the season, the Astros will boast the best record in the American League.
Houston’s starting rotation ranks second in ERA at 2.98 and second in WHIP at 1.09. The Yankees’ rotation ranks third in ERA and third in WHIP. The ERA, though, is much higher at 3.34 than Houston’s. Also, Justin Verlander is dominating this season.
NL East – Mets hang on for the title. Braves Phillies grab wildcards
Like the AL East, the NL East should send a majority of teams to the playoffs. The New York Mets have a 7 games lead over the Atlanta Braves. But the Braves have a 4 games lead over the Phillies and the Braves have a 1 game lead over Padres for the top two wildcard spots. Atlanta is a great final two months team.
The defending World Series Champions will pick things up in the final eight weeks. Philadelphia is a strong squad. The rotation has a 3.80 ERA, plenty good enough for the Phillies’ awesome bats to help the pitching staff stay out of trouble.
NL Central – Cardinals win the division. Brewers outplay the Padres for the third wildcard
Milwaukee versus St. Louis for the NL Central Division should be the closest divisional race of the season. The winner could come down to the final regular season day.
The prediction is that St. Louis takes the NL Central. The Cards have played great baseball all season long. Milwaukee will outwork the Padres for the final wildcard spot. So both teams will make the MLB postseason.
NL West – Dodgers roll away with the division and the best record in baseball
The Dodgers are dominating their opponents. Los Angeles boasts a 16 games lead over the Padres. Even if Juan Soto starts hitting home runs every time he steps to the plate, the Dodgers will roll to the NL West title. Not only that, but LAD is in line for the best record in baseball.
