Cleveland Cavaliers
- 2022 NBA Championship Odds: +4500
Is there any bigger surprise this 2021-22 NBA season than the ascent of the Cleveland Cavaliers? Cleveland is experiencing a high like no other since LeBron James’ lone title-winning campaign half a decade ago, with this past week’s All-Star festivities also revitalizing the fanbase’s interest and the city’s overall economy.
All-Stars Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen make for a one-two punch that could be a force for years to come, with the Cavaliers proving that rebuilding through the draft is still a viable strategy in the league. The Cavs are just 2.5 games behind for the East’s top spot, but would need to snap out of their two-game skid entering the All-Star break.
Toronto Raptors
- 2022 NBA Championship Odds: +5000
Toronto Raptors head coach Nick Nurse still has the boys from Canada fighting tooth and nail all season long, as they are ranked seventh in the Eastern Conference standings heading into the ASB and an 8-2 record in the month of February.
However, heavy minutes logged by the likes of Fred VanVleet and Pascal Siakam has got to be a concern for Toronto moving forward. The Raptors also have to deal with a rather grueling schedule in their first 10 games back from the break, including three back-to-backs. Then again, they are 8-3 in the second game of such back-to-backs this season, which is tied for second in the NBA.
Atlanta Hawks
- 2022 NBA Championship Odds: +7000
It’s been a pretty rocky season for the Atlanta Hawks, who are currently just one game ahead of the Washington Wizards for the 10th and final playoff-bubble spot. Atlanta is still two games under .500, but did reel off back-to-back wins over the Magic and the aforementioned Cavaliers entering the All-Star break.
It wouldn’t be wise to count the Hawks out as playoff snubs when all is said and done this regular season. As we’d recall, Trae Young and Co. went on a tear during the second half of the previous season, going from 16-20 before the ASB to 25-11 in the latter half of the campaign. In turn, the Hawks have the best bang for one’s buck amongst the East’s best sleepers, especially if Bogdan Bogdanovic (23 points in three of his last four starts) stays hot along with Young.
