Oregon Will Make A Strong Push for A March Madness Berth and More
Not a whole lot has gone the Oregon Ducks’ way this season. After being pegged as a top-15 program in the offseason, Oregon finished 18-13 overall and merely 11-9 in conference play.
However, there is still some optimism for the once-feared Ducks. They picked up quality wins over USC and UCLA (twice), proving that they have what it takes to hang with the best in the group. Amongst all possible sleeper picks to win the Pac-12 this season, Oregon is still a sound bet, especially considering that the program has won three conference titles since 2013 and recently winning it all in 2019.
UCLA Reaches the Conference Finals
Untimely injuries to a couple of their big names in Johnny Juzang and Cody Riley were not enough to derail another terrific campaign for the No. 13 UCLA Bruins. Even better is the fact that the team has a 7-1 record against the teams they’ll possibly face leading up to the semifinal stage of the tourney.
That one loss did come to No. 21 USC, but the Bruins lost by only three points in that earlier meeting whilst also getting revenge against the Trojans in the regular-season finale with a seven-point victory to snatch the second seed in the tournament. UCLA has the experience on their side as well considering that most of their core from last season’s stellar Final Four run is still intact.
Arizona Still Fulfills Its Destiny as Pac-12 Champs
The Pac-12 has been quite unpredictable the past couple of seasons, with sixth-seed Oregon winning it all in 2019 and fifth-seeded Oregon State shocking the Pacific last year (no conference tournament was held in 2020 due to the pandemic).
However, the No. 2 Arizona Wildcats appear to be a team of destiny. They rank fourth in the nation in scoring (84.7 PPG), second in assists (20.1 APG), and 12th in rebounding (41.7 RPG). Not only that, but the Wildcats also have a credible defense, allowing just an average of 66.7 points per game to their opposition. Head coach Tommy Lloyd has proven that his experience as an assistant head coach in Gonzaga is paying off and Arizona is reaping all the benefits in his very first year at the helm of another prestigious program in the West Coast.
