Max Homa
- 2022 PGA Championship Odds: +6,000
One golfer who’ll be a crowd favorite is the charismatic Max Homa, who’s quietly won three tournaments since February of last year. The 31-year-old out of Scottsdale won two of his four-career PGA TOUR events this season, beginning with the Fortinet Championship at the start of the campaign and the Wells Fargo Championship a couple of weeks ago.
There’s one concern surrounding Homa’s chances of winning his first major, and that is his performances on the biggest of stages, as he’s finished no better than tied for 40th place and has been cut six times out of his nine starts in major tournaments since 2019. Still, the No. 6 golfer in this season’s FedExCup standings is on a roll right now and ready to break his majors’ drought.
Tiger Woods
- 2022 PGA Championship Odds: +7,500
Hard to believe that we’re still talking about Tiger Woods as a contender to add even more majors hardware to his already decorated career in the year 2022. For as long as the all-time winningest golfer in PGA TOUR history is participating in an event, expect him to be a sleeper candidate in said event.
Woods had a valiant showing in his first start in two years at The Masters earlier this month, finishing in 47th place. While that finish is still a far cry from Tiger’s usual dominant form, many fans and experts are still high on the Hall-of-Famer to win his fourth-ever PGA Championship title and first since 2007. After all, we just bore witness to Woods’ triumphant return at Augusta in 2019, proving that he still has some magic left in his wand/glof club and a ton of appeal from the viewing and betting public alike.
Cameron Young
- 2022 PGA Championship Odds: +8,000
True to his name, 25-year-old Cameron Young is one rising star on the PGA TOUR who could surprise the field at Southern Hills. The Wake Forest alum has a total of four top-three finishes this season, with three of them being runner-up finishes, including his most recent start at TPC Potomac right behind the aforementioned Max Homa.
Not only that, but Young also has the stats to back up his sudden rise to the top level of professional golf. This PGA TOUR season, he ranks sixth in birdie average, and ninth-overall in both scoring average and driving distance. Young has yet to make the cut in each of his last three appearances at a major tournament, but this will be his maiden start at the PGA Championship to give him a fresh slate to build upon.
