2021 F1 United States GP Recap

This year’s favorite won last year’s event. Max Verstappen won the pole at the 2021 U.S. Grand Prix. Verstappen led the whole way on his way to another grand prix victory.

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton finished second while Sergio Perez, Verstappen’s teammate, crossed the finish line in third. Fourth place went to Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc. Daniel Ricciardo surprised with a fifth place finish.

2022 United States Grand Prix Picks

Top Pick to Win the 2022 United States Grand Prix

Early this Formula 1 season, it looked as if Charles Leclerc and Ferrari might challenge Verstappen and Red Bull. Leclerc won 2 of the first 3 events.

Charles took the Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix, Formula 1’s first race of the season. Leclerc won the Heineken Australian Grand Prix, the third race on the calendar.

Then after a drought, Charles also won the Rolex Austrian Grand Prix. However, since winning in Austria, Leclerc didn’t win another event while Verstappen stepped to the podium race after race.

Only a few events remain. Charles is desperate for another victory. He finished fourth in this last year. Expect Leclerc to put in a top effort, one that could lead to first place on the podium.

Second Pick to Win the 2022 United States Grand Prix

It’s difficult to go against the favorite. Max Verstappen has won 6 of the last 7 races. He took home the trophy in Japan in the last. The only race he didn’t win, the Singapore Grand Prix, went to teammate Sergio Perez.

Even though Max has locked up the driver’s title, he still wants to win trophies. So we should expect him to drive great. But Leclerc is due, which is why we’re relegating Verstappen to second.

Third Pick to Win the 2022 United States Grand Prix

Mercedes’ top driver finished second in this last season. Hamilton finished fifth in Japan, which isn’t bad because this has not been Lewis’ year. No doubt, Hamilton can win on Sunday. But the odds suggest most feel Mercedes must win a race this season and not Hamilton’s true chances of winning.

Lewis said a long time ago that he thought Mercedes was on the cusp of a victory. The win hasn’t happened yet. If the odds were higher, we’d have to consider making Hamilton the top pick but at the same odds as Leclerc, Hamilton is the third pick.

Top Underdog Pick to Win the 2022 United States Grand Prix

Sainz had to retire in Japan. Not only did he have a terrible race in the last, but Carlos didn’t drive well at the 2021 United States Grand Prix. Sainz finished seventh. So there are reasons to write off Carlos’ chances. However, the odds make Sainz more than playable.

It’s tough to find an underdog in F1 races. Sainz has won an event this season and drives for one of the top two constructors on the year. If you like to play underdogs, consider putting money behind Carlos Sainz.
