The last American standing pulled off the biggest upset of the tournament. Facing the great Rafael Nadal, Frances Tiafoe would not be intimidated. Tiafoe used power, speed, and incredible drive to get by Nadal 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. What impresses is how Frances rallied after Rafa won the second set.
Then in his quarterfinals match against Andrey Rublev, Tiafoe wouldn’t allow Rublev to take a set, winning a couple of tiebreaker sets on his way to victory. Like Khachanov, most tennis handicappers have doubted Frances Tiafoe throughout the tournament. Doubting him again may not be wise.
Why Carlos Alcaraz can win the US Open
When it comes to pure tennis skills, Carlos Alcaraz is the best in the world. Some of the shots he made against Jannik Sinner were breathtaking.
So when Alcaraz is at the top of his game, no player can hang with him. He can also win on any surface and because he’s 19 years old, Carlos will have a stamina edge over most of his opponents.

Karen’s luck should run out versus Casper Ruud. Khachanov has had a great US Open, but beating Kyrgios the way he did had to have taken something out of him. Beating a player of Kyrgios ability and then having to beat a player like Casper Ruud in the next match isn’t easy. Ruud should win the semifinal against Khachanov.
Casper will face Frances Tiafoe in the final. Carlos Alcaraz is the best player left standing, but Sinner pushed Alcaraz to 7 sets. Not only that, but the match happened late. Based on a second viewing, Carlos didn’t beat Sinner so much as he outlasted Sinner.
Tiafoe will have the crowd behind him, upset legend Rafael Nadal, and then beat the eleventh ranked player on the ATP, Andrey Rublev. Frances is on a mission. Not only will Tiafoe upset Carlos Alcaraz on Friday night, but he will also upset Casper Ruud on Sunday afternoon to win the U.S. Open.
