2022 Xfinity 500 Sleeper Picks

By Jeff Stinger

The Xfinity 500 is the last race before the NASCAR Cup Series Championship in November. Martinsville Speedway hosts the event after Kyle Larson snatched the previous victory last weekend, which means another race has ended without a championship-eligible driver crossing the checkered flag first. Joey Logano already bagged a win, but Ross Chastain, William Byron, and Chase Elliott remain winless ahead of the Championship shadow. The tension rises, but unexpected winners continue to lurk behind the favorites. That said, Nitrobetting takes a closer look at the top 2022 Xfinity 500 Sleeper Picks.

A. J. Allmendinger

  • 2022 Xfinity 500 Odds: +4000

Part-time driver in the NASCAR Cup Series, racing the No. 16 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for Kaulig Racing makes his way to our 2022 Xfinity 500 Sleeper Picks list. He does well on this track layout, placing seventh in last year’s Xfinity Series race and third last spring. So far this season, Allmendinger also scored six-straight top-ten finishes and a pair of top-five appearances in the last three races.

The 40-year-old veteran driver remains a worthy contender in the Xfinity Series, winning five of 31 races. Although he’s yet to score a top-place finish in a race this season, he finished third at Homestead last week. It’s been a productive playoff season for the California-born driver, finishing ninth or better in his last six Cup Series appearances. It’s difficult to write off experience at this stage knowing that Allmendinger operates well under pressure. Expect him to deliver positive results over the weekend.

Austin Cindric

  • 2022 Xfinity 500 Odds: +4000

Paving the way for young drivers in the playoffs is Austin Cindric. The driver for the No. 2 Ford Mustang for Team Penske is yet to place within the top five in the playoffs, but he started the season on a high note and registered four consecutive top-six or better finishes. He also scored his first career victory at Daytona in February. Although it’s been a turbulent ride for the man from Ohio, he’s a top-ten regular and a force to be revoked with.

Cindric bagged 14 top-ten appearances in 39 starts this season. He also led for eight laps in Las Vegas a few weeks back after starting from the second position. Although his performance dipped in recent weeks, once Cindric gets momentum back, we expect him to apply pressure on the favorites and impose himself as one of the best sleeper picks of the race.

Noah Gragson

  • 2022 Xfinity 500 Odds: +6600

Competing full-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and an occasional presence in the Cup Series, 24-year-old Noah Gragson begins to make his mark in the sport’s top tier. The 2015 NASCAR K&N Pro Series West Rookie of the Year records 17 Cup Series starts this season, finishing within the top ten on one occasion and one within the top five. His best finish of the season came by way of a fifth-place finish at Daytona while driving the Beard Motorsports Chevrolet.

Gragson’s best performance in the playoffs happened at Las Vegas when he finished eleventh place from a 17th-place start. Before that, he managed a seventh-place start at Talladega before dropping to 19th place by the checkered flag. Nevertheless, he’s an interesting sleeper proposal in a series of unpredictable playoff results.
