2023 ACC Championship Odds and Preview

Odds to Win the 2023 ACC Championship

Favorites

Clemson Tigers

Does head coach Dabo Swinney still have what it takes to keep Clemson atop the conference? The Tigers have won eight ACC titles in the Swinney era and they still have one of the best defensive units in college football entering the 2023 season. Having sophomore quarterback Cade Klubnik make his full-season debut under center is quite a concern, but his small sample size of great performances last season is still enough to inspire enough confidence that Clemson is an easy favorite pick to win back-to-back ACC championship games.

Florida State Seminoles

After a terrific 2022 campaign that saw the team go 10-3, Florida State is back in the ACC spotlight as a co-favorite to win the ACC along with Clemson. Most of FSU’s top weapons on offense – namely star QB Jordan Travis, running back Trey Benson, and receivers Johnny Wilson and Keon Coleman – are back for another run. Speaking of runs, the Seminoles’ run defense is still rather suspect, but holding their opponents to just an average of a little over 20 points per game last year is still enough reason to be high on the Noles this season.

Dark Horses

Miami Hurricanes

Most of Miami’s success this season hinges on a much-needed bounce-back campaign from third-year QB Shannon Dawson. Dawson regressed last year mainly due to injuries, which is why Miami spent a ton of capital on Signing Day to sign a couple of five-star recruits on the offensive line. The team is also operating with new offensive and defensive coordinators in Mario Cristobal’s second season at the helm of the program, making the Canes a rather compelling sleeper pick to win the ACC for the first time in two decades.

Pittsburgh Panthers

A relatively solid 9-4 season means that expectations are high for Pitt to sustain this level of success or better in 2023. The team is in good hands still under the guidance of Pat Narduzzi, who knows how to craft a stout defense despite the number of departures of their top defensive talents. Time will tell if the arrival of quarterback and Pittsburgh native Phil Jurkovec will boost an offense that also lost a couple of key players in starting running back Israel Abanikanda and top wideout Jared Wayne. For now, the Panthers remain an intriguing sleeper candidate to stun the rest of the ACC.

Huge Reach

Virginia Tech Hokies

The starting QB battle in Blackburg between incumbent starter Grant Wells and Baylor transfer Kyron Drones will be fascinating to watch as Virginia Tech tries to snap out of its slump of three straight losing seasons. The Hokies merely averaged about 19 points per contest last season and their defense returns with just five players from last year’s roster. All things considered, V-Tech is a distant long shot to reclaim ACC glory with so many holes left unaddressed on both sides of the ball.
