2023 AFC East Division NFL Odds & Predictions

By Hank Blaine

Due to the arrival of Aaron Rodgers in the AFC East, the division is expected to undergo a major shakeup. However, the Bills are still seen as the frontrunner to win the division odds-wise. Where do the Jets and the rest of the group rank as we prepare for what should be one of the most entertaining divisions to follow this upcoming season?

Nitrobetting is here to take your bets into the end zone this 2023 NFL season. This time, let’s break down each team from the AFC East and their corresponding odds of winning the division title in 2023.

2023 NFL Odds to Win the AFC East

Buffalo Bills

For the past three seasons, the Bills have lorded over the AFC East with little to no opposition from their rivals. They’ve gone 37-12 in the regular season during this stretch, boasting a high-flying offense led by perennial MVP candidate Josh Allen and a top-five defense with loads of Pro Bowl-worthy talent.

Buffalo had a pretty quiet offseason, making lateral moves with its offensive weapons. The team lost running back Devin Singletary, and wide receivers Jamison Crowder and Isaiah McKenzie, replacing them with Damien Harris (Patriots), Trent Sherfield (49ers), and rookie wideout Justin Shorter. With the reigning division champs still largely intact, it stands to reason that the Bills are the current odds-on favorites to make it a four-peat.

New York Jets

Despite finishing with a losing record for the seventh year in a row, things are finally looking up for the Jets, who made the biggest deal this offseason by signing none other than four-time league MVP Aaron Rodgers. New York is hoping that the 39-year-old Rodgers has enough left to not only win the AFC East for the first time in over two decades but also win the long-struggling franchise’s second Super Bowl title.

There’s a ton of potential out of this Gang Green Squad, especially with reigning Offensive and Defensive Rookies of the Year, wide receiver Garrett Wilson and cornerback Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner, taken into consideration. The Jets even brought along two of A-Rod’s favorite targets from Green Bay in Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb. With so much riding on their all-in approach to rise up and out of mediocrity, the Jets can be considered co-favorites to win the division alongside the Bills and the next team on our list.

Miami Dolphins

Not to be outdone by the Bills and Jets, the Dolphins also make a decent case as a borderline favorite to win the division race. After all, they arguably have the best wide-receiving tandem in the league with the streaky Tyreek Hill and sure-handed Jaylen Waddle. On the other hand, Miami’s offense lives and dies on the health of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who had a phenomenal 2022 campaign albeit with some health scares along the way.

Miami only had two draft picks in this year’s draft, but did spend a third-rounder on Texas A&M running back Devon Achane to shore up the team’s almost non-existent running game. The Fins’ other draft pick went to another SEC standout in South Carolina cornerback Cam Smith. With a lackluster free-agency season and little to no help from the draft, Miami is more like a high-upside sleeper pick than a co-favorite to win the AFC East after taking all their upgrades (or lack thereof) into consideration.

New England Patriots

How the mighty have fallen, as Bill Belichick and the Patriots finished with a losing record for the second time in three seasons. It’ll be interesting to see how long Belichick can wait for third-year quarterback Mac Jones to blossom into the next Tom Brady for the franchise. Jones got another wave of reinforcements as New England spent most of its offseason capital by signing star Steelers/Chiefs receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster and former Dolphins tight end Mike Gesicki, as well as standout offensive linemen Riley Reiff and Calvin Anderson.

Unfortunately, the Pats’ moves appear more like half measures than going broke for big-name talent, which does limit their upside as dark horses to reclaim the AFC East throne. Throw in the departure of three-time Super Bowl-winning safety Devin McCourty, and the Patriots are as average as they come. Being average will not cut it in this stacked division, which makes New England a virtual longshot to come out on top of the group by the end of the 2023 regular season.
