2022 F1 Australian GP Recap

It felt like Verstappen won every F1 race last year. But in Australia, Max suffered a fuel leak that led to a retirement.

Verstappen teammate Sergio Perez finished second behind Australian Grand Prix winner Charles Leclerc. Mercedes teammates George Russell and Lewis Hamilton finished third and fourth. Fifth went to Lando Norris while Daniel Ricciardo finished sixth.

2023 Australian Grand Prix Picks

Top Pick to Win the 2023 Australian Grand Prix

Sergio Peresis hot. Not only did Perez take the checkered flag at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, but in the season’s first race, Sergio finished second behind teammate Verstappen.

After a couple of races, it appears as if Perez’s vehicle is just as fast as Verstappen’s. Not only that, but Red Bull seems to have decided to put as much effort into Sergio’s ride as they do into Max’s.

Last year in this, Perez drove well enough for a second place finish. Right now, Ferrari is having all sorts of issues. So we shouldn’t be surprised if Perez manages to stay ahead of Leclerc and Sainz. Then, it could be a matter of either overtaking or holding off his teammate.

Second Pick to Win the 2023 Australian Grand Prix

Max Verstappen didn’t just beat bud Sergio Perez in Bahrain, the first F1 Grand Prix of the year, he dominated. Sergio was almost 12 seconds behind Max.

At the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Verstappen started in fifteenth. He made his way up to second by the twenty-fifth lap. Not only that, but even though he couldn’t catch Sergio, Max did drive the fastest final lap.

We should expect Verstappen to provide another stellar performance. If his odds weren’t so low, we’d make Max the top pick. So if you don’t mind the chalky odds, go for it.

Third Pick to Win the 2023 Australian Grand Prix

In Saudi Arabia, Fernando Alonso finished third followed by George Russell and Lewis Hamilton. Even Carlos Sainz, Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari teammate, finished ahead of the third choice.

But Charles’ seventh place finish was a step up from what happened in Bahrain. Leclerc had to retire. The seventh place finish gives Leclerc and his crew some positives to work around. Ferrari has to get it going sooner or later. They could get it going in this event.

Top Underdog Pick to Win the 2023 Australian Grand Prix

Sainz couldn’t finish the 2022 Australian Grand Prix. Carlos had to retire. In Saudi Arabia in the last, Sainz finished a decent sixth.

Like teammate Charles Leclerc, Sainz is hoping to get on the right track. Ferrari can’t be this bad. So we must assume that like Leclerc, Sainz is going to provide an excellent performance on Sunday.
