2023 British Grand Prix Sleeper Picks

By Jeff Stinger

Formula 1 returns to one of the most iconic tracks this weekend. The action continues in England for the 2023 British Grand Prix. Following an eventful Sunday in Austria, the grid prepares to go all out around Silverstone. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen joins the latest race as the heavy favorite. He already won seven races this season and is looking to get more P1s and break records moving forward.

However, we find plenty of value elsewhere in the mix. Max Verstappen remains on top of the list, but it’s also worth noting that the British GP can forge interesting narratives. Home favorites like Lando Norris made decent strides in terms of improvement. Nitrobetting dives through all of the sleeper picks ahead of the action.

Lando Norris

  • 2023 British Grand Prix Odds: +8,900

This weekend marks a homecoming for both Mercedes drivers and Lando Norris. The McLaren driver just recorded his best finish of the season with a P4 in last week’s Austrian GP. He offers excellent value as a sleeper pick and a solid choice after finishing within the tip six in Silverstone for a fourth consecutive year. He has work to do if he wants to move up from P10 in the Driver Standings, and his previous race is a testament to his improving form.

Norris finished seventh last season but struggles to hold onto a top-ten spot. McLaren’s MCL60 has been shaky and suffered reliability issues a handful of times throughout 2023. However, the 23-year-old showcased what the recent upgrade package has in store. With familiarity around Silverstone and an improved car that allows him to keep up with the frontrunners, we could see better results coming from the local boy this weekend.

Valtteri Bottas

  • 2023 British Grand Prix Odds: +10,000

The former Mercedes wheelman finished P10 in last year’s British Grand Prix. Before that, he finished four of five races not lower than P3. Everyone knows the Finn is more than capable of darting past the competition behind the wheel of a proper car. But, that’s not the case since he moved to Alfa Romeo. The C43 is having a hard time holding onto a midfield position. As a team, Alfa Romeo scored only nine points in nine races and is way behind the midfield race. Valtteri finished P15 in last weekend’s Grand Prix but scored points in Canada.

If there’s one man that can pull the Zürich-based team out of this slump, it’s Valtteri Bottas. He has a winning pedigree and experience that can weigh down the leaders. If Alfa can provide him with a better car and if the conditions align for the 33-year-old, there’s more than enough reason to believe his potential as a value sleeper pick.

Pierre Gasly

  • >2023 British Grand Prix Odds: +10,000

The Frenchman suffered from the penalties handed out in the Austrian Grand Prix. We saw drivers exceed track limits left and right, which included Pierre who dropped a place from P9 to P10. Nevertheless, the Alpine driver stayed in the points and looked positive ahead of this weekend’s event. He wants to redeem himself after picking up collision damage in last year’s race at Silverstone, which forced him to a DNF. Gasly finished P11 and P7 in 2021 and 2020, respectively. But, we focus on his best finish on the track when he drove for Red Bull in 2019. The 2020 Italian Grand Prix winner was a place short of a podium finish at P4.

So far this season, Gasly finished in the top ten six times with 16 points to his name. This is good for a P11 spot in the 2023 Drivers’ Standings. We look forward to the 27-year-old improving his numbers as the campaign nears its halfway mark.
