2022 F1 Canadian GP Recap

Verstappen qualified for the pole at last year’s Canadian Grand Prix. Then during the race, Max held off Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz to win.

Lewis Hamilton followed Sainz to finish third. Hamilton’s Mercedes teammate, George Russell, finished fourth. Fifth place went to Charles Leclerc and Esteban Ocon finished sixth.

Top Pick to Win the 2023 Canadian Grand Prix

It’s never fun to lay -330 but when we handicap F1, we must do so the way we handicap a boxing match. Often in boxing, one fighter is superior to the other.

Right now, Verstappen is the superior boxer and everyone else is the other. Max goes to a track where he excelled last season. The make matters worse for his opponents, Verstappen is dominating. He probably would have won the Emiliano Romagna GP, pushing his streak to four straight, if rains hadn’t washed out that race.

Again, -330 odds are tough to lay. But Max Verstappen should win the Canadian Grand Prix so we can’t say the odds make him an underlay.

Second Pick to Win the 2023 Canadian Grand Prix

If you don’t want to lay -330, consider backing Lewis Hamilton at +1400. Lewis finished second behind Max at the Spanish Grand Prix, the last race before the Canadian GP.

Not only that, but Mercedes had a terrible 2022. So although Red Bull is dominating, Mercedes should eventually get back on the winning track.

Hamilton has resolidified his position as Mercedes’ top driver. Lewis is the best choice to break Verstappen’s winning streak.

Third Pick to Win the 2023 Canadian Grand Prix

Fernando Alonso drove well in Monaco, finishing second behind Verstappen. Then in Spain, Fernando clocked a top ten finishing when crossing the line in seventh.

Also, although Alonso finished ninth at the 2022 Canadian Grand Prix, he did qualify second. Alonso has been knocking on the door. Sunday might be the day he knocks the door down.

Top Underdog Pick to Win the 2023 Canadian Grand Prix

Sainz and Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc haven’t had much success this F1 season. Neither has driven well enough for a win.

Leclerc offers lower odds than Sainz to upset Verstappen. Also, Leclerc finished fifth in this last year while Sainz finished second.

Carlos finished fifth at the Spanish Grand Prix. So it’s not like he isn’t driving well. If things go his way, who knows? Maybe, Sainz pulls off the massive upset victory.
