2022 NCAAF College Football Playoff Recap

Cincinnati surprised many by becoming the first non Power 5 Conference team to make the playoff. But 1-ranked Alabama had an easy time versus the 4-ranked Bearcats. The Crimson Tide beat Cincinnati 27-6.

In the other semifinal, 2-Michigan fell flat against 3-Georgia. UGA dominated the Wolverines 34-11, setting up a rematch for the National Championship between Georgia and Alabama.

A few weeks earlier, Bama had upset Georgia to win the SEC. In the college football title game, the Dawgs got their revenge, blasting Alabama 33-18. UGA won their first National Championship since 1980 when Herschel Walker played in Athens.

2023 NCAAF National Championship Picks

Georgia Bulldogs

At -145, Georgia isn’t close to being an underlay. In fact, based on Stetson Bennett’s performance in last season’s National Championship, the Dawgs might be an overlay at the number.

Georgia dominated a decent LSU squad to win the SEC title. More importantly, Bennett, the Bulldogs’ starting QB, and the offense have gelled in a big way. Georgia overpowers defenses with a stunning array of passes and pulling tackle rushes.

Georgia has all the tools to repeat. But if you’re looking for a team with a better price, consider our smart choice.

Michigan Wolverines

It’s difficult to believe, but the 2022 Michigan Wolverines are better than the 2021 team. Michigan’s improvement starts on the offensive end where quarterback JJ McCarthy has improved as a passer and a leader.

Even with Blake Corum on the bench, the Wolverines’ rushing attack should shine versus the TCU Horned Frogs’ defense. If the Frogs play man-to-man, Michigan’s wide receivers will beat TCU’s d-backs at the line of scrimmage. If TCU plays zone, Michigan should rack up yards on the ground. Either way, the Wolverines have an edge over TCU.

TCU Horned Frogs

But just because Michigan has an edge, that doesn’t mean the Horned Frogs have no shot. If you’re looking for the best long shot play, TCU is it. We can’t choose Ohio State because the Buckeyes must get past Georgia, and that won’t happen.

If CJ Stroud struggled against Michigan’s pass rush, wait until he’s face-to-face with Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter. TCU is the much better underdog play because the Horned Frogs boast something no other team in the playoff does, a quarterback named Max Duggan. The likely second choice to win the Heisman Trophy refuses to lose.

He’s a barnstorming beast that could put the Michigan defense on their heels with both his arm and his legs. The TCU quarterback is unflappable. So if the Wolverines make a few mistakes, who knows? At the odds, TCU is worth a look to upset Michigan and Georgia and win the National Championship.
