Updated on Aug. 24, 2022
- Alabama Crimson Tide +188
- Ohio State Buckeyes +275
- Georgia Bulldogs +350
- Clemson Tigers +620
- USC Trojans +1100
- Texas A&M Aggies +1625
- Michigan Wolverines +4000
- Notre Dame +4000
- Oklahoma Sooners +4000
Which team among Alabama, Ohio State, and Georgia deserves the longest look to win the title?
Alabama, without a doubt, deserves the longest look. The Crimson Tide boasts defending Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young at quarterback and a top Heisman contender for this season in JACK linebacker Will Allen.
Not only that, but Nick Saban convinced Georgia Tech running back Jahmyr Gibbs to transfer to Tuscaloosa. Jermain Burton is a wide receiver transfer and Dallas Turner on the other side Allen is also great.
Both Ohio State and Georgia have weaknesses. UGA quarterback Stetson Bennett is good but he didn’t have a great regular season. The love for Stetson revolves around his performance in the National Championship.
If Bennett isn’t consistent, the Dawgs will struggle to win the SEC East. Not only that, but Georgia lost too much on the defensive side to warrant a play.
Ohio State’s offense is fantastic. However, the defense is cause for concern. If the Buckeyes make the CFP, they’re likely to tackle an offensive powerhouse like Alabama or USC, which means Ohio State could be in some trouble once they get to the playoff.
Do the Clemson Tigers offer fair or unfair odds?
The odds on Clemson make the Tigers an underlay. Dabo Swinney lost his top coordinators. Losing Brett Venables, who now runs the program at Oklahoma, is massive. Swinney was hands off the defense. Venables developed Clemson’s defensive unit into one of the best in the nation.
Although the D has a ton of talent, it’s difficult to know if the new coaches will get the most out of the defense. Also, Clemson quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei had a terrible 2021. Uiagalelei has yet to become elite. It’s difficult to make the CFP without an elite signal-caller.
Which university between the Texas A&M Aggies and the USC Trojans is the better play to win the National Championship?
Both Texas A&M and USC are good enough to win the National Championship. Of the two, USC is the better play. A&M may have more overall talent, but the schedule is brutal. The Aggies host 16-Miami and 19-Arkansas. A&M face Alabama, Auburn, and underrated Mississippi State on the road.
LSU won’t be an easy victory. Neither will 21-Ole Miss. Florida will be much better in 2022 than they were in 2021. USC’s schedule isn’t nearly as difficult. A couple of teams should challenge the Trojans, Utah and Notre Dame. USC faces the Utes on the road and the Fighting Irish at home. If Lincoln Riley’s bunch can win both games, the Trojans should post an undefeated regular season.
What +4000 underdog, Michigan, Notre Dame, or Oklahoma, has the best shot of winning the championship?
Both Michigan and Oklahoma will struggle. The Sooners should have a much better defense because of Venables, but the offense won’t be as good as it was when Caleb Miller was their quarterback. Michigan lost defensive end Aidan Hutchinson. The defense won’t be as impressive this season as it was last season. Also, Ohio State beats the Wolverines in 2022.
Notre Dame will have a decent offense and excellent defense. New head coach Marcus Freeman knows what he’s doing. The schedule is no cakewalk. Notre Dame faces Ohio State, Clemson, BYU and USC this season. If the Irish win 3-of-4, their spot in the College Football Playoff will be assured.
